I have a 92 Plymouth Voyager SE van that has a hard pedal and the ABS light
comes on.  I tried changing the ABS computer and the entire ABS unit with
one that did work on a 1993, but no change.  The mechanic has tried just
about everything that he can think of... help!

I would start by making an appointment with your local dealer to have the
system checked. Your backyard mechanic should have told you there is a
recall out on that system that may apply and get your brakes back to working
order.
With out having the proper pressure gauge and scan tool you will not get it
diagnosed nor get it fixed properly.

By the way, the ABS controller has nothing to do with the pressure of the
system, you can take it off and toss it in the trash and your brakes will
function as a normal car without ABS,

Usually, the psiton seal in the hydraulic unit leaks excessively and
eventually wears out the pump. Is the pump running? That's where you get the
hydraulic presssure that applies the brakes. If you have a hard pedal, and
you have to "stand on" the brakes to get any braking action, then the puump
is probably not running. This system (Bendix 10) doesn't have vacuum boost.
There is a lifetime warranty on the actuator piston and the pump/motor
(only) - but not on the rest of the parts. It's Chrysler recall #685. Go to
the following link:

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/recallsearch.cfm

Type in NHTSA Campaign ID Number: 96V099000

Click on "Document search" and read all the information that will tell you
everything you need to know. All the Chrysler dealers should be fully aware
of this recall, and it is still active.

Wanna buy another one exactly like it? Dodge has bought back at
least 4500, but it's a long legal road to get there.

Best bet is to drop it off at a junkyard. If the glass and body
are good you can get $150.
