neon 1998 gear problems

coming home from work last night, my neon wouldn’t slip into gears
(going up the gears, but coming down was ok) it kind of jumped/lurched
into them.  8O  
is it just a gear box problem or low fluids problem.
it already has the oil leak( a quart a week!) :oops:

you answered your own question the trans is probly junk by now running
it low on fluid burns up the clutches
