NY Times
Monday - October 5, 1959

The Dodge Division of Chrysler Corporation has added a new lower-priced
series called Dodge Dart to its 1960 model line-up. The new models are
set on the 118-inch wheelbase Plymouth frame but with an individual
styling concept marked by long and graceful lines and a less pronounced
fin than the bigger 126-inch wheelbase Dodges.

The Dart series - Seneca, Pioneer and Phoenix - will be priced in
competition with Plymouth, Ford and Chevrolet. The Phoenix models will
come only with V-8 engines, the two others will have six-cylinder power
plants as standard equipment with V-8 engines optional.

The addition of the Dart gives Chrysler two standard-sized entrants in
the lowest segment of the medium-priced field and has stirred
speculation that the bigger Dodges or even Plymouths might be radically
altered in appearance next year, perhaps emerging as luxury types of
small cars.

The familiar Dodge line continues the fin-on-fin treatment of former
years and will be available in eleven models, all with V-8 engines. The
Dart series has twenty models.

The cars, which will be in dealer showrooms on Wednesday, include a
complete range of two-sear station wagons. Three-seat wagons will be
available in the Pioneer model and in both of the big Dodge series -
the Matador and the Polara.
