I swear- every car I've ever had with electric locks, at least one of
the doors decides not to cooperate.
2005 Caravan SXT. Noticed the other day that the driver-side slider does
not lock with the inside electric button on either front door, or on the
fob. Works fine with the mechanical button, no apparent damage to door
on visual inspection. The electrical connector exposed at bottom edge of
door is tight and undamaged. All the other doors work fine. Only has 42k
miles, which is why I bought it.
So, I conclude the lock solenoid is bad, or the connector on it is
loose. (No sound/movement at all from the door- it isn't even trying to
fire.) Anybody else ever dealt with this before? Any online sources for
how to take the door apart without trashing the interior trim panel?
(Heaven forbid they do like an old pickup and use a screw-mounted access
plate.) Or do I need to blow 20 bucks on a shrink-wrapped manual at the
store, and hope it includes a diagram? (I presume the factory manuals
are $100 plus these days...) And how much does the solenoid cost?
I know, it isn't a big deal- but this is the first car I have bought in
six years, and the first one that I paid over 10k for. I was hoping to
have a 'nice' car for at least a year or two before stuff starting
falling off. :^(
(Side rant- why did they quit putting keyholes on all but driver door
and hatch? Some of us hate carrying those enormous fob keys.)

I just completed a power lock change myself on my 03 Caravan. I tried t
take the lock actuator apart to see what could be done. I could confir
that the actuator was the fault when I could plug it in, function the loc
with the remote and it would flicker slightly. I check with the junkyard
in the area and got another actuator, plugged it in and the actuato
worked great. Took it home and installed it. All works fine now.
Best bet is to get the part from the wreckers/junkyard for about $40 o
so. To order one from the dealer would be around $150.
Hope this helps you out.

Missed the part about removing the panel on the door. It is held by clip
on the inside. There should be one screw in the top portion of the pane
by the window near the door lock button. All others are the clips. Yo
have to pry these out with a screwdriver or something similar. You ca
reach down by the lower forward portion where the wires enter the door an
start there. They just pull out. Once you get them out the panel is easil
removed from the upper section around the window. You should need a TOR
#10 screwdriver to remove 1 screw from the actuator. Remove the lock ro
and unplug it. If you are so inclinded you can take the actuator apar
using a TORX # 8 screwdriver and check if can be fixed. If you can d
this, then remove all the pieces from the actuator except the motor, tak
it back to the van and plug it in. Press you door lock fob and confirm th
motor works. If it does, then you know the wiring is good and you need th
new actuator.
Again, hope this helps.
