I don't see anything unusual there, Mike.  

Not that I don't think any other taillight solution has to be
preferable.

Particularly since today,
"http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/gallery.php?num=1301" brings up a
Mercedes 300SL Gullwing ....

I don't like the way that site is set up, either, but I pretty much go
there only to vacuum pictures and then bail out.
