My F1 thoughts, after heaving a few times:
I would not care to second-guess Michael Schumacher, as so many seemed
to do on TV today. I'll just give my opinion. What he did was lame. I
want to believe he is acting on team orders, but ??? I would imagine
he's not the first great driver to play a little dirty pool, so I doubt
it tarnishes his reputation in the end. But as a roll of the dice it
was definitely a loser. Yet, again we're treated to another display of
his skill as a driver as he whips a.s and take advantages of attrition
to finish a nice 5th. Fastest lap of the race. You could tell he
wanted to ace Barrichello at the end, but alas it was not to be.
Overall? Try a better disguise next time, SF.
Is there a worse team than Super Aguri? YESSS!! Midland. What a joke.
Nothing like your drivers crashing into each other to cause managerial
hair fallout.
CBS' coverage was, as usual, horrific. Thank God they only have one
more race this year. Above Ralph Sheheen's insistent whining and
always-one-step-behind observations, Danny Sullivan's molasses
commentary made Derek Daly sound like Sir Laurence Olivier. He also was
always a step behind on the call; I particularly cringed at his "Kimi
Rockanin".
Formula One's camera work, though, seemed as good as I can ever remember
- excellent in-car shots, and very few of the mile-high blimp stuff but
instead great lower-altitude overheads. Very impressive - when Sheheen
wasn't shilling "Two And A Half Men" reruns or pleas to watch The
Memorial golf tournament "coming right up after today's race" over live
racing. Godawful. I loved it when he said "and so Raikkonen begins his
climb up the hill' - as Kimi clearly descended. It was like two dorks
using the Mona Lisa as a scratchpad.
Nico Rosberg drops from 5th place to 15th - no mention whatsoever. I
won't even bother with the so-obvious questioning during the inset "live
interview" of him, which made as much sense as a bowl of pudding.
Near the end, as the two of them discuss the now-tiresome
Alonso-to-Mclaren move and it's ramifications, Sullivan wonders aloud
how Flavio is going take it, and whether or not Alonso may be regretting
his decision in light of the problematic Mclaren machinery. It's all
about the Benjamins, Danny. And not a mention of the spicy fact that
Flavio also happens to be Alonso's manager (agent, whatever.).
But the REAL question: What was up with the shirtless Raikkonen on the
yacht with the shirtless Buff Boy in the skin tight warmup pants? Not
that I care a whit about the possibilities, but I've never heard
anything about Kimi riding bareback ...
OK - time for some NASCAR. Hope it's more exciting than this dog was.
