Hey, I just bought a 1995 348 Spider and am new to the Ferrari family!
Quick question to anyone that knows, I don't plan to take it out in
the rain, but when it does, the engine will surly get dumped on.  Is
there some kind of cover I'm supposed to get to put in the trunk lid or
something for such an occasion that can't be avoided?

You have my sincere deepest sympathy.

Rain is the 'least' of your problems with any 348..
Lets hope your bank balance is absolutely huge, without it boy, you're just
about to well and truely...stuffed.

We'll call you Christmas, then, shall we?

Honestly, get shut, very very quickly, this car will bankrupt the richest of
buyers, why do you think they are SOOOO 'cheap'?

This is utter crap. There has been a 348 in my family since it was
bought new in 1994 and the only problem it's ever had has been with the
A/C. It's not my favorite of Ferraris, but it sounds beautiful and has
run very well for over a decade.

Generally, generalizations are wrong.

Everything Mikal says is wrong.  What an empty life he must have to feel
it necessary to shoot rubber bands at people's ankles for fun.  I would
imagine he is impotent, probably on his way to cirrhosis of the liver,
and extremely bitter over the hand he's dealt himself in this life.

Ahh good, for a second there I was about to start feeling bad.

Ok, so back to my original question, is there something I should get to
cover the engine to protect from that random rain day?  I can't imagine
rain on the engine could be at all good for the car.

I got a black 348 with tan leather interiour, it's hot, I'll have to
post pictures later.

I think it's the same for most Ferraris (and when you think about it,
many cars - after all, a large puddle will splash a lot of water up onto
any engine). The only issues with water and engines are: you don't want
any to get in it (for obvious reasons), electrics and corrosion (if
anyone wants to add to the list, feel free). You really won't get any
into the engine unless you try to test the car's amphibious capability,
electrics seem pretty reliable to me and as for corrosion... who knows.
If I were you I'd cease worrying about it.

Just remember (to help avoid rust): never put a wet car away into a nice
warm garage.

A black 348 with tan is *cool*.

I trust the car is garaged?

No fear driving it as is.  The decklid is designed to protect the
important bits.

Yeah, the car is garaged, but I'm on the east coast and can't help but
get caught in a thundershower every once and a while.   Kinda  wished
there was some kinda clear cover that could go over the vents in the
back on such times so parts of the engine didn't get wet.

Do you think it's going to melt or something? Do you worry about all
your cars getting wet or just the Ferrari? Do you never plan to wash
this car?

If it makes you feel any better, I've raced a 355 F1 in the rain with
puddles so big in the apexes that a wave would slosh over the top of
the door into the car. Even with all the extra electronic gizmos in the
cockpit, the car still ran fine.

Why would you say that?
