thc test subject - 13 Jul 2006 22:33 GMT But I dare anybody to tell me to take it elsewhere. Because I got the Mossberg catalog today. Pump action, baby! Coming soon to your local morgue.
Anyway, for those of you who are true Led Zeppelin aficionados, you MUST pick up the 3-disc live set "How The West Was Won". You won't believe what you are hearing.

I bet it's news to him too. Now down as low as Assf*ckin' hey?
That's just about your lot costello, can you really get any lower?

Bah, true tifosi only shoot Benelli!
I shouldered the cheaper home defense model they sell (with ghost ring sights, no less) and it fit me like a charm. I figured the cash would go better elsewhere, but if ever I want a 12ga. pump for the home it's the likely winner.
I still like the H&R/NEF single shots, myself. Cheap, durable, with interchangeable barrels. I still want a couple barrels for the old youth model I have.
Their pump is a chinese copy of a Remington 870, but if you can allow your money to support the Chinese army then they're pretty nice for the price...

thc test subject - 19 Jul 2006 03:03 GMT Maybe some other time. For now I need good old rough and tumble, Prescott Arizona "home defense". The Special Purpose range is quite capable, very high quality, and a little more affordable then a Beretta. But I will look and drool, for your edification.

Paul Duffin - 19 Jul 2006 16:50 GMT > Though I dare say the CX4Storm piques my interest more than a little. > I bet it piques my wallet as well .... I'm not tryting to start another anti/pro gun thing (it would be pointless anyway, there's no separating Americans from their guns), but just think what a gun might really give you if you get one. How about just spending the money on something useful instead - like some good music or fine wine?
Ok, here come the 'facts' (I'm pulling on my asbestos underpants right now, so you can all put down the flamethrowers.... besides, you know I'm only saying this 'cos I care). From the New England Journal of Medicine article "Gun Ownership as a Risk Factor for Homicide in the Home"
"The use of illicit drugs and a history of physical fights in the home are important risk factors for homicide in the home. Rather than confer protection, guns kept in the home are associated with an increase in the risk of homicide by a family member or intimate acquaintance."
For every time a gun is used in a "home" in a legally-justifiable shooting [note that every self-defense is legally justifiable] there are 22 criminal, unintentional, and suicide-related shootings. [Kellermann AL, Somes G, Rivara FP, et al. "Injuries and deaths due to firearms in the home." The Journal of Trauma. 1998;45:263-267]
The presence of a gun in the "home" triples the risk of homicide in the "home". [Kellermann, AL, Rivara, FP, Rushforth NB, et al. "Gun ownership as a risk factor for homicide in the home." N Engl J Med. 1993;329:1084-1091.]
The presence of a gun in the "home" increases the risk of suicide fivefold.[Kellermann, AL Rivara FP, Somes G, et al. "Suicide in the home in relation to gun ownership." N Engl J Med. 1992;327:467-472.]
Just think about, that's all...

Matt Borland - 19 Jul 2006 17:20 GMT > I'm not tryting to start another anti/pro gun thing > > Just think about, that's all... > > -Paul I suspect crossing that data with other risk factors for violence in the home may bring those numbers down a bit, as there are most likely several other confounds. The mere presence of a gun does not invoke violence, it just makes whomever feels violent a little more effective than if they have to use a common steak knife that is found in most homes...
Wait, you don't eat steaks, so you might not have the knives either...
So they become more effective than throwing a giant bunny at someone and running the other direction.

That's how neocon Republicans spread *democracy*.
Hey, did you hear that Georgie Boy just vetoed the latest bill concerning stem cell research? The man had the nerve to say, "...in our zeal for new treatments and cures, America must never abandon our fundamental morals".
All bets are off when the zeal is for oil, power and religious conversion though.

It was Aunt May or Uncle Ben who actually said that.

There seems to be a remarkable groundswell of opinion against him on this issue.
> <<Sad days. Such sad days. 'With great power comes great > responsibility' > (Spiderman. Yes, really.) >> > > It was Aunt May or Uncle Ben who actually said that. I know that! (uncle Ben, in fact). I grew up with Spiderman (not literally, obviously) but if I'd just creditted the quote to 'uncle Ben' people here would have thought me even more unhinged than usual.

Tiger Racing - 19 Jul 2006 22:28 GMT << I suspect crossing that data with other risk factors for violence in the home may bring those numbers down a bit>>
*A bit* means that having a gun around is still a risk factor.
<<The mere presence of a gun does not invoke violence>>
A gun's purpose is to kill. It is a symbol of violence.
<< it just makes whomever feels violent a little more effective than if they have to use a common steak knife that is found in most homes...>>
That's the freakin' point!! Stabbing someone is usually an up close and personal means of killing them. You literally get blood on your hands and it's damn near impossible to kill a number of people at once with one knife. Guns make violent urges far more effective while allowing one to maintain distance from the actual damage being done.
<< they become more effective than throwing a giant bunny at someone and running the other direction.>>
Gods, yes! Do you know how heavy that mutant bunny is??

She's not a girl who misses much Do do do do do do- oh yea! She's well acquainted with the touch of the velvet hand Like a lizard on a window pane
The man in the crowd with the multicoloured mirrors On his hobnail boots Lying with his eyes while his hands are busy Working overtime A soap impression of his wife which he ate And donated to the National Trust
I need a fix 'cause I'm going down Down to the bits that I left uptown I need a fix cause I'm going down Mother Superior jumped the gun Mother Superior jumped the gun Mother Superior jumped the gun Mother Superior jumped the gun
Happiness is a warm gun Happiness is a warm gun, momma When I hold you in my arms And I feel my finger on your trigger I know nobody can do me no harm Because happiness is a warm gun, momma Happiness is a warm gun -Yes it is. Happiness is a warm, yes it is... Gun! Well don't ya know that happiness is a warm gun, momma?
