Anyone know when they've scheduled to be in NYC?

Ferrari to close down London!

The City of London is to be closed down next month to allow Shell to
film a new TV commercial to promote its long-standing sponsorship of
the Ferrari F1 team. The advertisement, which is reputed to be the
world's most expensive, with a production budget close to £2m, will
see Ferrari F1 cars racing through a selection of the world's most
famous cities including London, New York and Sydney in order to
promote Shell's V-Power high-performance fuel.

CGI for the other cities perhaps?

Had the thought myself: I imagine the roadway interface is the hardest
to integrate, so just pick a few representational roads somewhere,
shoot b-roll, and let Apple do the rest.

Love that what they think is "upstate" is my hypercongested backyard.)

Shell has to do something with the record profits, I guess using money for
firewood was getting old...

Thanks. I was wondering why our fuel prices keep going up, despite the
drop in oil prices.

Frank - you should understand by now what an honour it is to be supporting
the Ferrari team when you buy Shell.

Do the Ferrari F1 cars qualify for the congestion charge?

Crap. So then it wasn't Schumacher who helped Ferrari, it was me all
along ? I can never show my face here again... ;-)

That's wrong Frank, they are dropping and have not seen a rise for many
months

The oil prices have been steadily dropping for months. At the start of
Jan, we were still paying 1.19-1.22 here. Then it went as low as
1.04(for 2-3 days, a week or so ago), this just after quite a bit of
huffing and puffing from the media on the findings of the petrol price
watchdog.
Then by the end of last week it went back up to as high as 1.13. Don't
know what the price is today, but i bet it's not 1.03.
According to all the gurus, the price should be around 90 cents at
most, yet...

That's Just the Duty yea?

I'm currently paying 87.9p/l for diesel so that's about USD$1.71 isn't it?

That aside do we actually pay VAT on the duty? So when "Gordon Blair" put up
the Duty 1.25p last year it actually went up 1.46p?

LOL. Nah, pump price. Our duty is well above 1/2 of the pump price
once the federal and state governments get through it all. The service
station's profit was around 14 cents on a litre when it was selling
for only 78 cents some years ago. There may have been some changes
since, but i'd think it'll still be close to that percentage-wise.

All in all, we are only whining because we are used to low priced
fuel. Just as the Americans are. We've always had substantially
cheaper fuel than you guys in Europe. Partly dictated by our long
distances i'd say, but probably also because we do produce a large
enough quantity of oil ourselves(though not necessarily for
ourselves).

>I'm currently paying 87.9p/l for diesel so that's about USD$1.71 isn't it?

Last time i've looked, diesel was around A$1.50 or something here in
Oz, when petrol was 1.20-ish. It always amazes me how a byproduct of
refining crude oil into petrol can be sold for more than the bloody
petrol. Maybe it has gold particles, i'll try and fossick a few
litres.. :)

Dunno, but i don't think you should be paying VAT on duty. AIUI, the
duty is based on the already calculated VAT(GST for us) inclusive
price and is just tacked on.

Yep the duty is vattable. Ole Gordie doesn't miss a trick, including
ensuring that the *cheaper* fuel carries sufficient duty to make it more
expensive to the end user than the *expensive* fuel.

Well, I think we have some of the most expensive gas there is.  In
Mammoth Lakes, CA, gas is currently 2.89 for regular unleaded.  It
went down 3 cents the other day.  That is the first price change
(except for the escalation for the holidays) since the summer when it
was as low as 2.70

Today it was $.95.9 per litre on the left coast of Vancouver Island. That's
about $3.63 per US gallon!

I contacted Shell about this story.

They confirmed that this advert filming will be taking place, but "for
legal reasons", can't tell any more about it, when it happens etc.
etc.
