Let's catch up a bit, at least Ferrari-wise, since I've been away. I've noticed the following: T308 has not sold the car he has threatened to sell on several occasions. I'm guessing he has bought a 2nd relic to join the Mexican rescue 250. PhilB is back (thanks for the kind email, BTW) and enjoying his 308. A kid headed to college? Wow, time flies... TR1 has gone to the dark side (FChat) but still slums in this bar on occasion. Luigi is still the resident curmudgeon and keeper of the faith. Bert was spoofed by the resident troll. MH has returned to prominence. I see no signs of MC. I'm assuming he's okay... Maybe I missed a name change? Paul, well, we all love you Paul. A couple new faces, good to see. I miss anybody? In the meantime, how does everyone feel about the state of The Marque now? We have the 599 outrunning F40s, the 612 looking like a huge bar of Safeguard (that's an old American deodorant soap, Duffin), the 430 is faster than it has a right to be and looks like a 360 on steroids, complete with backne (the Enzo taillights), Eddie Griffin pulled a Dietrich, and Maserati is coming out with improved versions of its existing line while taking no real chances in the marketplace, while providing a pretty good slushbox GT. I miss anybody that time? Oh, and F1 has turned to complete sh.t. That is all. It is my hope to have more garage square footage in future than living space. Something tells me my cars will be running in 40 years while these "modern" cars will become dusty relics. "My, that 348 is fetching with those square taillights I..." No, further! "That 308 looks mighty fine! That engine note is sweet! 0-60 in what? My sedan goes fas..." Further still!!! Boo... Hiss... Went up to Miller Motorcars last weekend, after doing a plug change on a 308, they had a 612 and a 599 in the showroom. The 612 is supposed to be big, it has four seats... The 599, "the blind man's Ferrari", looks like it was designed to fit Rosie O'Donnell* (I could be the guy they designed the Daytona around), the thing is freaking HUGE. There's no reason for that. There's no denying the performance advance of the thing, or the engineering perfection of the 430, but they both are esthetic failures compared to their predecessors. The 430 is especially egregious in that every change from the 360 demeans or destroys something already beautiful. The GranTurismo is ok, the headlights are abominable, but I'll prefer the smaller, tighter 4200 GT. * "Blaming guns for Columbine is like blaming spoons for Rosie O'Donnell being fat". It's taken a LONG time for me to appreciate the 360's styling, but I've finally been won over. I've been sold on the 430's aggressive styling since day one. James
