MC - 24 Oct 2003 17:38 GMT Regardless of marque-admiration constraints, you have to love the new Ford GT. I have been salivating over that car for some time now. I would love to have one in full Gulf Racing Team livery. The new web site Ford has trundled together shows one, briefly, in the Intro. Awesome!

That's everywhere you can get ahold of me. Not likely to change again unless I move out of state, something which I am contemplating. It's too expensive to live here, plain and simple. Just as an example, in Arizona I can buy several acres of land, in a house I can buy and own, for a total of $500 *less* per month right now than I'm paying to live in Hell.

You're just going to have to be nice to everyone from now on. I wouldn't worry too much - just about everyone here is traceable if someone wants to try hard enough (some of us are even in the phone book).

I know, I know, it's a Porker...
It did crack me up though, reading about the first concept drawings for the GT and how they were dubbed "the V6 version" before the designers were sent back to the drawing board to redraw the car with some attitude.

So Ford's joined Porsche in confessing their best and only good idea is forty years old... (The Ford GT 40 was really a rebadged Lola.)

They have a new "Mach 1" complete with shaker scoop.
Last year they had a "Bullitt" edition.
The replica boss stripes have been around for years.
All that's missing is a new "King Cobra" or "Cobra II" for those that missed the Mustang II versions...

The "re-badged Lola" statement is not entirely true, btw. Lolas pretty much used Chevy running gear, as I recall. The design might have been Lola-esque, even Lola-exact, but Ford was all over the mechanicals.
But, as I learned through my personal Enzo debacle, a mind can always change, an opinion can always waver. Freedom of opinion being the blessing that it is, you are welcome to yours.

Some Lolas may have used Chevy machanicals, but I'm fairly certain that the Lola GT in question did use Ford stuff. Be that as it may, Eric Broadley (of Lola) was a lot of the ability behind the GT40.

0-60 mph in 3.28 seconds (best they ever tested), 0-100 in 6.6 seconds (best they ever tested), Quarter mile: 11.1 seconds at 133.0 mph (best they ever tested), Skidpad: 1.10 g, Braking 80-0 mph: 188 ft. (best they ever tested), Slalom: 73.0 mph (best they ever tested)
All I've seen on the CGT is that it will do 0-62 in 3.8, and that it will top out at 205. That's good, but I believe in general the Enzo is going to be the better car of the two. Yes, I am biased.
However, I do like the CGT, it looks great and obviously it is a serious performer. As I will never own one, and probably not an Enzo either, this discussion is probably kind of moot. But don't go throwing Porsche smack around here just because you think you can. The overwhelming choice of the regular readers of this forum is Ferrari. There is a newsgroup for Porschephiles as well, and in general I don't get along with most of them, but maybe you will.

As I will never own one, and probably not an Enzo either, this [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > Porschephiles as well, and in general I don't get along with most of them, > but maybe you will. I'm not trolling, just discussing Enzo vs. Carrera. The GT is going to be one of the biggest competitors for the Enzo, and when the Porsche is released there will be comparisons of the two everywhere you go. They are both terrific sports cars, I would take the Enzo without second thought-but you can't deny the fact that the Carrera GT is going to give the Enzo, GT-40 and anything else you want to throw into the mix a run for their money. The Carrera GT is already a instant success, while the Enzo was very controversial (and still is?). It has love it or hate it looks, I happen to like it but have heard many opinions the other way around. It would be in vain to try to name a superior car at this point as the Porsche has not been fully road tested or put head to head against Ferrari, but there will be many great battles to come between the two, and this thread is only the beginning of things to come.
Tom Jones - 30 Oct 2003 00:41 GMT The GT-40 is a nice car, the best from Ford since....well the original. What is too bad is the fact that all the magazines are going to (and have) compare the GT-40 with its 5 liter supercharged V8 to the 3.6 naturally aspirated Modena so they can trumpet their National Enquirer type headlines. I can already see it .."American Supercar Beats Best Of Italy". Open the magazine and you find they compared an GT-40 to a base 360, and not the Enzo, or 575M for that matter. Likewise with the Lamborghini Gallardo insted of the Murcielago.
