New Ferrari California revealed: a hugely versatile, innovation-packe
G

Maranello, May 13th 2008 - The first official photographs hav
been published of the Ferrari California, the latest addition to th
new generation of Ferraris launched in 2004 with the 612 Scagliett
and added to more recently with the 430 Scuderia

The Ferrari California joins the Prancing Horse’s 8-cylinde
family which has always been defined by power and performance. I
also flanks the flagship 612 Scaglietti in the prestige sporty Gran
Tourer segment

The new Ferrari California will satisfy even the most demanding o
owners in term of its superb vehicle dynamics and driving pleasure
The new model will be available exclusively as a convertible with
folding hard top. Both chassis and bodywork are aluminium, in lin
with the rest of the current range. The California will be powered b
a new V8 engine mounted for the first time in the marque’s history i
the mid-front position

In line with Ferrari tradition, the new model also feature
several innovations. Apart from its folding hard top, these includ
the original 2+ concept which guarantees exceptional versatility o
use in the rear of the car. The California’s 4,300 cc V8 engin
features direct fuel injection and a “flat” crankshaft. It generate
460 CV at 7,500 rpm with a torque curve that enhances vehicl
dynamics and provides maximum driving pleasure which is typical fo
Ferrari

As per the traditional Ferrari transaxle layout, the engine, whic
allows the Ferrari California to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in les
than 4.0 seconds, will be coupled to a 7-speed dual clutc
transmission that boosts the car’s performance while enhancing th
driving pleasure, improves ride comfort and reduces fuel consumptio
and emissions (c.310 g/km CO2). The comfort is further enhanced by
new multilink rear suspension system. The Ferrari California is als
equipped with the exclusive F1-Trac traction control system whic
made its debut on the 599 GTB Fiorano and has been further honed t
suit the typical driving conditions expected for this new GT. Bremb
brakes featuring carbon-ceramic material disks as standard guarante
superbly efficient braking

In addition to sporting the marque’s classic styling cues, th
cabin has also been beautifully trimmed using quality materials b
Ferrari’s own skilled artisans. New accessories and equipment, suc
as the seats, steering wheel, instrument panel and infotainmen
system, together with optimised aerodynamics ensure that this is
highly ergonomic and enjoyable car to drive regardless of whether th
top is up or down

The Ferrari California is aimed at owners who desire a car whic
embodies everything the Prancing Horse represents in terms of sport
design and innovation, but also seek a car with greater versatilit
than ever. The car will be officially unveiled to the public at th
Paris International Car Show. However, over the coming weeks, ne
photographs and further details about it will also be published

Don't sugarcoat it Mark, tell us how you really feel...

It is pretty awful isn't it?  PF's losing their touch (as well as
millions of euros).  Time to look outside Turin for styling.

It's just so.. bland? It's like they took the 430 and went beserk with a
sander on it removing any bulges, lines, edges or anything distinct. If I
was in the market for a 8cyl Ferrari (yeah, like that will happend in this
lifetime) I would still go with the 430 Spider and wait for the next thing
after the California.

Yes, but all Ferraris look a good deal better in the flesh than ever they
appear in a photo...

...although this one would have some work to do...

That was my third and watered down attempt.  I'm practically
apoplectic over this monstrosity.

Since the bloody TR/512.

That's been their problem for some time, I thought the Japanese guy
who did the Enzo, and thereby the worst of the 430, was the worst of
it but apparently they had some crap left over.

And now Piero's sinking money into the pit as well.

Just like Vignale, their time has come and gone.  True coachbuilding is
dead.  Ferrari should find talent elsewhere and let them create.

Maybe they should hire that Indian guy from Discovery channel who creates
'supercars' from old wrecks by cutting them up and shaping steel ;)

Looks like they did.
Under the paint is 30 mm filler and then a 1976 Honda Prelude.

This is kinda painful to say, but it looks like a bloated Hyundai Tiburon,
or 90s Toyota Celica :(
