I stick to mountain bikes. As a reserve soldier for the Urban Warfare System/Psychiatric Division, I have to be ready for the call at all times. Besides, if I rode a Colnago around my neighborhood the vatos would be drawing straws to see who got to take me down, with what method, etc. And all the glass on the roads would be a real bitch.

Of all of them, the Merckx is far and away the nicest bike.

It's a big difference jumping from my bike to hers, makes me feel bad for her as she cranks and grinds along behind me on trails... No amount of chain lube, grease, and penetrating oil can make up for a terrible design and old bearings.
Like they say, you can't polish a turd. All it gets you is a shitty rag.
That said, it looks like we'll probably have to wait one more year before visiting for Pub Run 27 or whatever you're up to by then. The planned trip to the U.K. in the spring has to wait, pending other issues. Needs before wants, you guys know how it is...
We'll get there eventually. In the meantime I'll keep reading about them and waiting for the twice-annual MCPD site update. :-)

OTOH, it looks like I might finally make my way over the Big Water next year. Dad just invited me and my Crew Chief to follow him over for the Historic Le Mans race. He's planning on running his 512F. There's a good chance that one of the men who actually raced one of the 512s at Le Mans back in the day will be co-driving with him, too.
I'm not sure if they actually have *pubs* in France, but is there any chance that you guys could make a run to Le Mans?

I gotta be patient I suppose, but this sure sounds like a helluva good time...

Hel, I wouldn't be. <g>

Of course, you do. Come on, now! What's the hold up? Money? Your job? Is it that woman you're living with? Is SHE giving you grief again? Damn her!!

Believe me, she'd go tomorrow if we had the cash...
It'll happen eventually, I figure. I appreciate the vote of support though.

Ah. Well, um... kindly disregard that last bit then.

Oh, you should hear me talking to other drivers' and mechanics' new girlfriends when they come around. I make a point of telling them that even if they aren't into racing, they better get used to the life, because it won't change. Marrying him won't make him stay home more. Kids won't make him stay home more. If you love a man who loves racing, then either be prepared to support that or run away, run away now!

Happy as pigs in slop we are....
-Matt- "Well, she'd clean that up a bit."

So you married a quirky woman? Buy her a new bike then!

How... lovely.

I'm tellin' ya, when we all finally get together, a good time will certainly be had by all, guaranteed... Believe me, it will happen as soon as possible.
-Matt- "You know he's a little bit knackered."

I've imagined this a few times myself ... there's a dozen or so regulars who've been here for a few years now. If we were able to pull it all together - for a centralized "research committee meeting", of course - I think it would be one of the most monumental parties of all time.

When exactly is the race? I'd love to go there, it's only a 2-hours drive from here.

I believe the classic Le Mans race is the weekend of 23 July. I'll miss a pro race here in the States that weekend, but I think it'll be worth it.

Might I suggest an M60 tank? Should be available from a cash poor South American nation near you...

Wonder what they'd have to use to take me out ... probably anti-tank rockets or a laser-guided bomb. That much carnage in Santa Ana - AWESOME!

So I'd be careful not to high side the thing on a Jersey barrier, were I you.

That guy might have been mentally ill, too, but he was also an IDIOT. The thing to do with a tank before you steal it is make sure it's full of gas, all the weapons systems are functioning, know where you're going and what you're going to do when you get there, and stay off the damn freeway. Jeez, I oughta write a book on how to kill large amounts of innocent people you hate anyway.
I never knew they were called that, btw. You pretty smart guy.
