FERRARI NAME THEIR CAR
Last Updated: Tuesday, 20 January , 2004, 14:09

Jean Todt has revealed that Ferrari’s 2004 challenger – to be launched
on Monday - will be called the 655.

The decision brings to an end Ferrari's previous labeling of cars
which began in 2000 with the F1-2000.

The Ferrari team boss also disclosed that the 655's front nose ‘could
surprise everyone’.

Todt said: “With the 655 we hope to continue our formidable run of
success.

“It will have a front wing that could surprise everyone.”

Todt’s comments come in the wake of Williams’ ‘nose job’ on their 2004
car – the FW26.

Todt’s comments come in the wake of Williams’ unveiling of their 2004
car – the FW26 – with its hammerhead nose job.

Renault have also decided to do something different. Their R24 made
its track debut at Barcelona today and featured an unusual engine
cover and a rear wind that departs from its traditional design.

From Ferrari we could expect something different again.

Todt added that he was confident in tyre suppliers Bridgestone despite
Michelin having the upper-hand in testing so far this winter.

He said: “Bridgestone are Japanese. They work methodically and with
rigour. The only thing we shouldn't do is panic; there is no reason
to. I say it clearly: I am convinced that we will race well.”

Those smart folks at Grandprix.com clearly don't know that the 6XX series is
the internal project number for Ferrari F1 cars.  It'll likely be named
F1-2004CS after Michael's wife or some such.
