I'm finding insurance to cost more for a motorcyle than on the
Ferrari.
In fact, I'm finding bike insurance to be more than I pay for the
Durango, Explorer, BMW 740 or 325. Why the hell is this?
Is there a specialty company I shoudl be dealing with, what am I
missing. Paulo, how does the insurance on yuor Ducati SS compare to
your 308?
Anyone,

geico charges me $250 for the 308, and for the bike, sullivan motorcycle
insurance is $68 every 6 months

Geico wanted $1,800 for the 308, so I went with Hagerty for about 1/3
that.

What bike is this?
It seems some insurance companies price bike insurance
extremely high to just avoid it altogether, while others are
more inviting. Sportbikes in general seem to be skyrocketing
lately though...
As for mine, she's uninsured and out of commision for
a few more months, then I unleash all 30-ish horsepower
on the unsuspecting populace.

Was considering a Honda Sabre or VLX.
Something to cruise around with. I like the Ducati SS also, totally
different expereince, but near me there aren't many places to get them
serviced - although not sure how important this is.

Not so important with the desmodue. Some guys do their
own valve adjustments and whatnot on those bikes. A 996
type (desmoquattro) is another story though. Probably a good
idea to have a dealer nearby for that one.
As for the Hondas, not my thing really, but I'm
sure they're nice. Honda generally puts out nicely
finished bikes that rarely break, as I'm sure you
already know.
Now I'm wondering what my insurance will be on
whatever bike I replace the old beater with this year...
Gettin' me concerned Phil...

Hmmmm... looks like my answer may not be helpful given the "$68 every
6 months" reply from gary! My 308 cost ?411 at last renewal. I can't find
the exact figure for the Duc, but it was about ?100 less. In the UK
we have a 'no claims bonus' system that gives a discount each year if
you don't make any claims, usually about 10% per year, usually up to a
maximum 5 years. I have this on my car policies (one 308, an Alfa 156 and
a Landrover Defender 90!) but when I took out bike insurance (after a
long gap since previous bike ownership) they wouldn't accept car-related
bonuses.

And car insurers wont accept motorcycle related no claims bonuses either
(after a long spell of company car use with no accidents)

I have 6 points on my licence (for doing 82 in a 50) - so work it from there
a) Suzuki 1200 Bandit - Fully Comp - 4 years no claims - ?220.00
b) Kit Car / Lotus 7esq / No claims doesnt count for anything - Kit Car
Policy - ?148.00 fully comp (and eats most things at the traffic lights)
c) Ferrari 308GTB - classic policy - limit of 4000 miles - fully comp -
?954.00
<sigh>
The Ferrari just doesnt make sense when the kit car is faster off the mark
and gets more looks from the general public
<deep sign of resignation>

Ok, ok, enough! I can't work out which MC is saying what! (yes I know
I could check the headers, but I'm not going to do that.)
MC2, for all I know you've been 'MC' in other groups for ever and a day
but here in a.a.f we already have an MC. The confusion that you are
causing the mentally challenged (such as I) may be of little consequence
to you, but you should know (if you don't already) that 'our' MC has
an occasional habit of ...um... well, 'upsetting' people... you know,
noting too serious - just threats of aggrevated assault, mutilation and
various inventive forms of execution - and therefore is steadily building
a long line of people wishing to (as they say in Yankee land)
'bring it on' with him (I believe that this refers to some form of
fisticuffs).
Anyhoooooo, my point is - are you sure you wish to be mistaken for him?
I realise that you are miles away from most of the potential agressors
(and are no doubt skilled in the art of ecky-thump) but these foreign
johnnies have nukes and all that.
Anyway, on behalf of the confused, kindly be a good fellow and do
something to distinguish yourself when posting here.

Not only that, but if he says something to upset me, I'll have to kill
him and rend his carcass into slabs of fat that say "Fight Club" on them.

Bikes are stolen more often perhaps?
