Haven't been able to post. This is pasted from a post I attempted to send
earlier.

Could be interested iun a Bentley, but there's something more interesting
that may be available in the next few months.
Regards to all,

Pasted stuff from weeks ago:

Went to Marranello on Monday. The stock had changed from earlier in the
week, with only two 456s on sale. Both were in the ?120K and upwards
bracket, so way outside my budget. Didn't bother asking for a test drive
as  I had no intention of buying, and hate time wasters.
The interior is far better on the 456M. A salesman told me that they
would not consider selling anything pre 'M'. Part exchange allowance for a
1997/17,000 mile example: are you sitting down?  Not much more than
?30K.

The drive to Egham didn't do anything to boost my waining appreciation
of the car. Too much road noise-as much as a Porsche 928: if any of you
have driven one, you'll know what I mean. Performance still nothing to write
home about, not helped by the auto 'box, which became progressively more
violent  as it heated-up.
On the way home, a stone flew across the carriageway and struck the
windscreen like a rifle bullet. A costly repair yesterday...
I'd seen enough. Yesterday, the car was delivered back to the vendor;
not before an unscheduled stop to investigate a burning smell from under the
bonnet.
As I shook hands with my friend and handed over the key, the Ferrari
badge fell off the key ring.

I wonder if fate was trying to tell me something?

Bently Turbo RT, anyone?

Nah. Don't like to tempt fate.

On a completely unrelated tangent, the girl that lives next door to my
garage came in the other week and asked if we were prepared to maintain her
dad's car. Imagine my surprise when she told me that it's a silver 355
spyder. As he's getting-on a bit, he may consider selling it after the
summer.

I wonder if  there's anybody who could be interested in relieving him of the
burden of having to dispose of said vehicle...

Eh?  Meaning?  I mean, using words, legal action, or a shotgun?

Nothing sinister.

Sure.  I'll trade him my Viper for it.    Or did you have something else in
mind?

The plan is to have a good look over the car, then decide if I'd be happy
with one in silver.

If so, I'll tell him that a man in his 60's looks ridiculous in a
convertible Ferrari; ask him if he wears a chest wig; then make him a silly
offer (converted into pre-decimal money).

Hopefully, enough humiliation will convince him that he should do the right
thing and let the car go

If that works, let me know.  I have my doubts.   I'm 53 and just bought a
Black 96 Viper.  Plenty of people have already mentioned how ridiculous it
looks for me to drive a  "Batmobile" including my wife.     Pretty much, I
just continue grinning.

I expect to be in an F355 or early 90s Testarossa at some point, and it
could be in my 60s.   Doubt I'll care how I look.
Figure I'll still be grinning.

My dad has been racing vintage for over a decade. He just starting running the
pro series last year. He was 61 at the time.

People who fixate on chronological age are wasting the yrs that those numbers
represent.

Isn't that a generalisation?

Generally speaking, I detest generalities.

I don't doubt it.
Good for you.
