ROME (Reuters) - If you are thinking about speeding on Italian
highways this year, think twice. You might find yourself being chased
by a Lamborghini.

Italian police took possession Friday of a sleek, 500 horsepower,
two-seater Lamborghini Gallardo, which can hit a top speed of 185
miles per hour.

The sports car, painted in the police's distinctive blue and white
colors, comes complete with a flashing blue light on the roof and will
initially patrol the Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway -- a road
notorious in Italy for wild driving.

The Lamborghini will also be used to transport human organs for
emergency operations.

Now that's just not nice.

Ackshully I'm milfly concerned that the speed camera that flashed me
in Switzerland last year will cme to haunt me when I return this year.

Anyone know if the Swiss police computer system bears grudges?
and more importantly whether it talks to those nasty border police
and checks incomming vehicle's registration numbers?

(I know I could always try the 'it wasn't me' approach, but they might
not care and demand a fine anyway...)

Tisk, tisk.  The a.shole is not an organ, although it can produce a
symphony of sorts.  The a.shole is a muscle.  Which one begs to ask,
do muscles have a.sholes?  Or do they just open their shell and spit?

And besides, how can you call them a.sholes?  They get paid to carry a
gun and drive a Lambo.  Nice world.  Next thing you know, Jessica
Simpson will have her own TV show......

lol at the italian police anyway.
They'll have to keep themselves from ramming speeding cars with their
lambo.

The Lamborghini adopted from the highway police in those drawn is a true
waste, since the Salerno-Reggio Calabria is one of the more disc of a valve
Italian freeways... a true waste of horses!

...and according to Autoweek Maserati might go to VW next?

Such a legendary name, and yet it never works out...

Yep, that about sums it up. Of course my instructor friend
calls it "technical". It'd be great fun on a trackday, but in a
race it'd be hellish with all the traffic. There's like 1-1/2
places to pass. You guys have fun out there...

Hopefully next year I'll have something to drive (or ride)
for a track day.

That's racer speak for *hard to drive fast on*.

I'm a bit worried about it actually. We'll see how it goes.

I'm sure it'll be fine, once you're through turn 1
it'll be parade, passing, parade, passing... Just
an extremely intense parade where people will
try to crowd you out of your line and generally
get pissed off at you if you hold them up.

Although, if they wanted to be in front of you
then they damn well should have qualified
better, eh? You'll be great, and if you're not
you won't be the only one stinking up the track,
guaranteed.

I'll say it again, you have fun out there. I'm sure
your crewchief has already told you if you smell
burning rubber and the handling feels sketchy
pull into the pits... ;-)

Thanx for the vote of confidence, hon, but I'm guessing that you didn't follow
what happened at Lime Rock. THAT is what I'm worried about repeating at
Mid-Ohio.

LOL. On a bad day, if I smell anything burning, I'm likely to bail out of the
car completely.

Gallardo engines are made to a VW design in a VW-owned engine plant,
situated nowhere near Italy.

Ferrari are owned by the same family-owned holding company which owns
FIAT Automotive.
