Moronic - 30 May 2004 21:09 GMT Group,
I taped this one hour program off of the Speed Channel last night and watched it this morning. At the end, they advertise it as being available on a DVD with 5.1 DTS surround sound ($24.95) It features most every (production) Ferrari made in their 50+ year history with a "test drive" in many now privately owned classics from 1949 right up to the ENZO. I enjoyed it. Here's the link if your interested.

Later, Monstrosity
MC - 31 May 2004 03:24 GMT > Group, > [quoted text clipped - 10 lines] > Later, > Monstrosity Yes, YES!!! I blabbed about the whole series in a post back in December. I think they are astounding in sound quality, even as I have the whole series taped - I am looking forward to acquiring all of them on DVD someday. Note that the versions on the DVDs are also longer than the 1/2 hour they toss at you on SPEED.

I downloaded it for free off the internet
MC - 01 Jun 2004 20:51 GMT > I downloaded it for free off the internet Good for you, moron. At least I now know that you use your computer for something more than jerking off to bukkake. Another P2P hero.
Aaron - 01 Jun 2004 21:17 GMT >...moron... MC, please. Remember what NG this is. The correct phrase is 'hat f.cking twat', not moron.
A very sore Aaron

Get 'im Mike; get 'im good!!!
...I thought the broadcast versions of VBD were an hour long, and am I to believe the DVD contains footage of additional road cars not seen on the broadcast version, or perhaps only the ones dropped from the "remastered" broadcast version?
MC - 02 Jun 2004 18:54 GMT >>>I downloaded it for free off the internet >> [quoted text clipped - 9 lines] > on the broadcast version, or perhaps only the ones dropped from the > "remastered" broadcast version? I'm not going to pursue it, M - his statement says everything. I mean, an argument could be made that I did the same thing by videotaping them. (but I do want to buy the DVDs). I've not downloaded a single thing off the Internet -video or music- that had any real quality to it whatsoever, so to crow that you saved money by downloading something off the Internet is like saying you didn't have to buy dinner because you ate something off the ground. Not to mention that it makes one sound like a cheap-a.s loser.
I don't really want to blast P because through his other posts he doesn't sound like a bad person, so maybe there will be some learning here. But my opinion remains even if P downloaded the "DVD" version off P2P and burned it to a DVD. The quality won't be the same, period.
To answer your question: unfortunately, the way you worded it is confusing. But, my understanding is that on the purchaseable DVDs there are additional cars not seen on TV, as well as expanded footage of the cars seen in the "SPEED-channel" versions. The two longest ones are advertised at 98 minutes long. Unfortunately, since each disc is advertised as "running time + 22 minutes", I would have to deduce that each disc contains the "Making of VBD" segment - don't get me wrong, it's good - and I consider that to be a touch of misleading advertising.
But you figure an hour-long TV show is actually 48 minutes, because of commercials, so a 62 minute long show, or especially a 76-minute show, is definitely a good bit of added footage, especially when it's in very high-quality video and sound.
And in the end I don't care because I love those shows.

I didn't really know what it was or that there was even a TV show called Victory By Design until after I downloaded it. And no I don't have a single P2P program on my computer, and no I didn't burn it to a DVD, it's just sitting on my hard drive wasting space. Now where is my apology?

Maybe you should have explained the above instead of cackling "I downloaded it off the Internet for free".
At the same time, since I've acknowledged that I videotaped all of them off SPEED, I in essence did nearly the same thing. And, since I've never had an extended beef with anybody on this board who's actually owned a Ferrari, and I don't want to start now, I offer you a heartfelt apology for calling you a moron or attempting to point out shortcomings. I am sorry.

The original two VBDs were Ferrari and Porsche. They were very popular, so four more, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Jaguar & Maserati, were made, taking just about two years. During this time the original two were re-cut, for the Ferrari episode, at least, adding some footage and deleting some: My wonder is whether the Ferrari VBD DVD includes additional road cars, as our lightfingered friend seems to imply, or merely the re-inclusion of cars deleted from the re-cut episode...
All very clear, really. ;-)
Peter O - 11 Jun 2004 09:40 GMT Thanks for the interesting link. I would like to dwmld from the internet also. Can you advise how you did this, source etc

You f.cking MORON. It just always seems like every dildo in this world wants to get something good for nothing. You're little more than a petty thief, and not a very good one, since you have to ask for directions.

StarToucher@webtv.net - 14 Jun 2004 02:15 GMT I've seen that episode a few times. I was surprised at how people let that guy drive some of those cars considering what they are worth, and at how well he does it. I think he drives 15 or more.

He's a former Formula 1 driver, has driven endurance, touring cars, etc. Has the stature of the "respected elder statesman" among his peers and among enthusiasts, he's also a car collector in his own right (just based on stuff I've read about him, etc.).

Viper - 15 Jun 2004 02:49 GMT Who be "him"? I've seen the show. I think they keep showing the Jag-you-are show over and over and over intentionally.
I'm finally on my countdown to next year's Ferrari purchase, should personal goals be attained by year end.
In the interim, the Viper fills in quite nicely.

I've seen the show. I think they keep showing the > Jag-you-are show over and over and over intentionally. His name is Alain de Cadenet, this is what the site says about him:
Alain De Cadenet - Bio
Alain de Cadenet made his reputation building and driving his own sports racing cars, taking-on the full ‘works’ factory teams and, at times, even beating them. In 1976 he came third overall at Le Mans, which made his mark – and in 1980, won two rounds of the World Sports Car Championship (Monza 1000k and Silverstone 6-Hours). At that time, this was considered a major achievement in an era of increasing professionalism, when it was unheard of for a self-funded privateer to take-on the ‘big boys’ and win.
Alain is also one of the most respected and accomplished racers of classic and vintage cars – and, during the course of his driving career, has owned and raced some truly important machines, particular in the marque of Alfa Romeo. Now, during the course of shooting six “Victory by Design” shows, it’s probably safe to say that Alain has driven more different and important racing cars than any person in history.
In addition to his passion for cars, Alain is also an avid collector of motor cycles and airplanes (including a WW2 Spitfire). For many years he was also a collector and authority on George V stamps, even advising the British Postal Service on their collection. Alain’s knowledge of vintage wines and period stills cameras is also formidable. He is genuinely a 21st century “renaissance man”.
Viper - 15 Jun 2004 07:01 GMT Well, he's for real, then. Pretty impressive. Thanks.

A bit younger Alain in that one ... he really is one of those rare delights, an intelligent collector with not a trace of snobbiness.
