My sweet ride....

StarToucher@webtv.net - 28 Aug 2004 05:05 GMT A few nights ago I heard an unusual car exhaust headed towards the carwash I live near. I looked out the window to see a guy vacuuming a 1994 348 spyder. I walked over and struck up a conversation with the guy. To make a long story short, I was offered a ride in the car which it turned out the driver had it on loan from the company he works for. He told me the company he works for owns several vehicles (prowler, hummer, vette, Ferrari) and after a year of working for them he can "put in" for a weekend with one of the cars. I just happened to catch him when it was his turn for the Ferrari. We went and got gas and then we took a ride on some winding country rodes out to a nice strech of country road. Being a long time Ferrari enthusiast I had goosesbumps on this ride. The car got up from around 65 MPH to 100+ real quick, and on a few down shifts, I told him, my car would have blew up. I was amazed at how my elbow resting on the doorsill, could pivot and rest comfortably, at various points on the car. Another thing that impressed me was when he showed me how the key for the car had a "hinge" that enabled it to be positioned out of the way of the drivers knee. One thing, the roof leaked when it went through the automatic carwash, why wasn't I suprised at that? Also he told me his wife called him constantly when he had the car as he would tell her he would be "right back" and in fact she called him on his cellphone as we were driving. i gave him a "hotwheels" 2004 "tooned" Enzo with my phone # to give to his wife if she didn't" buy his story. His one question to me was "how much did this cost new" And my question is, what is the top speed of this car in relation to U.S. emmissions? Thank you.

Oh dear....
I.
StarToucher@webtv.net - 29 Aug 2004 06:01 GMT Yes, I helped him guide the car up on these little ramps, we didn't know if it would clear the little pyramid shaped things, but it did by like 1" It was on loan from his work, so I would hope he would have done it by hand if it were his. The worst thing was how the car was covered with Graphics advertizing his company, but I couldn't see them from where I was sitting. In his defense it was a "touchless" carwash. There is a guy with a 308 (my dream car) who owns a ski shop up the road I see when I drive by, I need to talk to next....

So it's OK to treat other people's possessions like crap?
<<The worst thing was how the car was covered with Graphics advertizing his company>>
THAT is the *worst thing*? Interesting priorities.
<< In his defense it was a "touchless" carwash.>>
You're defending yourself, actually.
This is a Ferrari that we're talking about? Who cares who owns it? Doesn't the car deserve to be cared for on its own merits? Whatever company owns it now, they won't always. The car should be preserved for history. Anyone who aspires to own one should know that.

Why don't you offer to hand wash his car in exchange for a ride?

Offer a hand wash for a _drive_.

I've been using a "touchless" car where the car goes through the wash, and water and soap is sprayed on it. Then people do the hand washing, drying, and so on. Then I take it home and put Meguire's Gold Class on myself, etc. I was under the impression that the automatic car wash "brushes" are what do the damage to clear coat.
No?
And no, I don't have my Ferrari yet. And worse, I'm thinking of giving up on the Testarossa and saving for a 355 instead, as "everyone" seems to feel the running costs/repairs/maintenance are low on the 355 and potentially very, very high on the Testarossa.

No?>>
Why not just your standard, everyday, hand wash? Why does a machine need to squirt the water and soap on?
I worry about sending low cars thru these things and with wider wheels and tires, there is always the chance that things will get scuffed up.

Other than a full on detailer, I haven't found a straight hand wash. They all seem to use the automated line, just no brushes, or that air vacuum that drops a wheel onto your hood.
> I worry about sending low cars thru these things and with wider wheels and > tires, there is always the chance that things will get scuffed up. Point taken. The Viper's rear wheels were actually wider than the track. I haven't checked the Vette's wheels against the rail for sizing, and I intend to go up to the wider Z06 wheels at some point.
It's just that with the black exterior and highly polished wheels that the car needs washing ALL the time, and I just don't want to spend that much of my life washing a car over and over.
I tend to use my sports cars as everyday drivers (5,000 miles on the Viper in 5 months - 1500 miles on the Vette since July 11) and leave the Mercedes in the garage. Makes for LOTS of car washing.

Handwashing a Ferrari is masturbation for the mind ;) You're not actually washing it, you're caressing it.. and it happends to become clean in the process :)
Best Wishes Thomas *ehum*

Not sure where you are, but in So Cal, they usually have hand washers available at all the drive-thrus.

So hire a service to come by your work once a week to wash it. I used a service for a couple of years that charged 15 bucks a week and they did a very decent job of it.

So you don't like being questioned, eh? Your actions speak for themselves? You do what you do, but have no explanation, let alone excuses?
That doesn't really hold up online or off.
<<Pleasantly most of the Ferrari owners i have met are no where near the pompous a.s level you seem to have attained.>>
What is *pompous* about my saying that other people's things should be respected? That it's wrong to trash something just because you don't have a personal, financial stake in it?
Seems to me that you're the one who thinks quite a bit of himself. You can't even be bothered to defend your utter disregard of another's property. If you really respected and loved Ferrari, then you would show it in a situation like this. I have no reason to believe that you would act any differently if you actually owned one of these automobiles.

BTW, as I doubt you will respond to my specific questions, I shall go ahead and file your opinion appropriately.
