<<After all: Cupholders... sticking out of the dash of "the world's best
sportscar"... Weak.>>
Heh. We were cruising home from Laguna on Sunday night in the M5 and were at
first annoyed that there were no cupholders and then amused that we were
annoyed.

You'll be really amused to find that there ARE cupholders in the center
console below the DSC / Sport Mode buttons. HOWEVER-it is generally accepted
that they are pretty much useless, and have an operational lifespan of about
6 coffee's/drinks.
Many have mused about how such a superb vehicle could have a part that is
out-designed by any Korean or Russian auto manufacturer.
The truth, I think, is that they were purpose designed by BMW. The "purpose"
being to mock the perceived (and probably true) predilection that North
Americans have for needing to constantly be refueling the driver.
I remember seeing a German cartoon depicting a special "North American Mod"
for a vehicle. It was a huge roof top cup holder with a tube going down to
the driver.

Hey, good to know! My defense is that it was dark and there is tons of crap on
the dash of this car. That stereo isn't terribly intuitive either.

How does BMW feel about passengers having a soda on the road?

It used to be "anything which contributes to the attitude that a car
is merely an extension of the living room is unwanted and unnecessary"
...these days not so much.
