I've been busy entertaining a longtime friend all weekend.
He flew up from the South to visit and we had a blast.
Friday we hit National Trail Raceway for a day of drag
racing (easy Duffin, easy now). We all got a facefull of
nitromethane fumes when John Force fired up his car in
his pit, clearing the whole area in a matter of seconds. It
was nice to go there again after a couple years off, but
the toothless drunk loudmouths make it kind of a pain in
the a.s. 7000hp Top Fuel cars are fun to see, hear, and
feel though... Pro Stock Bike is always a treat as well.
Saturday was Mid-Ohio for the Speedvision WC GT
race. Our personal favorite driver had mechanical failure
early on, but she started strong and had to pull a killer
move to avoid a 5-car pileup at the start. Star Mazda
and Formula BMW were okay, not that interesting to
watch until the drivers started taking risks to pass later
in the race. ALMS qualifying and practice was very cool.
Say what you want about the MC12 being a tarted-up
Enzo, I liked it. As usual the Corvettes were the loudest,
the Vipers and Porsches sounded eerily similar, and the
Saleen S7 and Panoz sounded like Mustangs with open
exhaust. Looked cooler though... The Audi prototypes
have the weirdest popping noise as they bounce off the
limiter to make the pit road speed limit. They're almost
like a huge two stroke the way they sound. No Lamborghini
this year, and I never saw the Risi Ferrari 360. Strange... The
Maserati guys were everywhere and there was a Coupe and
a Quattroporte available for inspection. The Coupe still does
it for me although I really wish they had kept the hockey-stick
taillights. I love the basso profundo roar of that engine.
Sunday was a trip back to where I grew up to visit family
and take my friend on a tour of our old haunts that have been
revamped, removed, etc.
There you go, no dog poop for me.

Said driver also shared much Mexican food and beer with
us late into the evening after the race. As usual a good time
was had by all.

Although he may have nodded off for a moment or two, even the team
owner seemed quite amused by the evening. Imagine how much fun we would
have had if I'd actually finished the race!
Try again at Cleveland?

If I could break the date for the vintage races I would...
You're just killing me with guilt here, you realize... ;-)
In other news we've been researching a trip to Monterey,
among other things. Actually many other things. You might
see us again sooner than we thought.

Is your calendar broken? Did you not see the date was already taken by
my race??
<<You're just killing me with guilt here, you realize... >>
Guilt? I don't do guilt. Of course, you should really be ashamed of
yourself for insulting our friendship this way.

Hey, hey! Lemme know as soon as you can. I need to book rooms and can
hook you up at the same place we stay at if you're coming.

The race car looks way better than the road car, IMO.

My good buddy Ralphie called it a "Saleen Mustang". SPeaking of turds.

Too late. Already in the mail. And we put a couple shots of Franks Hot
Chile n' Lime on his food yesterday, too.

Yikes!
That hot sauce sounds pretty good though. I'll
have to try a bottle some time, always did like
the RedHot.

Frank's is awesome, and it's not that hot. My roommate turned me on to
it, and he's one of those who would drop a whole dried chipotle into his
own bowl of chili, so I thought it would be searing hot, but it's not.
Very tasty. I had just about lost my taste for the hot stuff when I
moved down here, but Kelly is a gourmet cook with an affinity for the
heat. I've learned quite happily that there are all kinds of hotness
out there - not just the kind that surprises you when you bite into a
street-vendor burrito, your tongue falls out, smoke starts pouring out
of your a.s, and the fire department shows up.
Quick Ferrari question - is the 333SP still being raced?

Not professionally, but some series are already letting them run as
*vintage*.

Hey, I was out trying to buy a car this weekend. Too busy to check in!
T308

El Paso....)

Too late for you, too. It's amazing what Dakota produced after a few
healthy spoonfuls of Ralph's "Private Choice" Rocky Road!

T-Possibly-Two-Fitty,
You still headed to the F1 race at Indy? If so I'll
be dropping you a line when we're there, maybe
grab a bite or at least spend some time sneering
at the Renault team.
A GTE would be very cool...
Wanna trade the 308 for an old Coupe Quattro..? ;-)

Let me know!

Prices are on the rise which means that some truly crappy cars are
coming out.
But i'm not giving up....

I didn't count yours.
I don't know why.
Chalk one up to the vagaries of insanity - the best excuse ever invented
to get away with doing nothing but stupid shite like that!
