I am a contributor.

I do not own a Ferrari.

I live in Prescott Valley, AZ  (USA).

I actually like the fact that we go off topic frequently.

I like the fact that all of us love cars, period.  It doesn't
necessarily have to be all Ferrari (hey - this is our f.cking group and
we can do what we want!)  Oops.

I dislike the fact that we have had hardly any newcomers "stick" as
active posters (I still think about the Asian guy who lived in a
cornfield in Iowa, can't remember his name but it began with a T.)

I really like blasting Mikal to a cinder when he resurfaces as somebody
else.

I most like the fact that several of us have met and gotten to know each
other, and especially that I've made a best friend out of somebody in
this group.  (And a lot of great friends, too, but well ... y'know ...
he lent me money ...)

:-)

(20 mins. later)
I do NOT like the fact that, because I do not have my damn contact
lenses in, I can't see the goddamned keyboard; it's taken fifteen
minutes to clean up the typos.

>> A lurker or rare contributor?

Lurker, mostly.

>> Do you own a ferrari?

No Ferrari but looking for the confidence (in the seller, mostly...)
to buy a 328 or maybe a 355.

I've always been a car/driver nut, done the race schools, autocross
and stuff like that.  Got the mid-engine bug, been through NSXs and
MR2s, love them, still have one of each now.  Have a weakness for
comfort and torque, which explains the M5.  Also have a weakness for
lightweight chuckability, which explains the Caterham Seven.  Where do
I go from here?

>> Where (roughly) are you?

Near Philadelphia.

You're a pretty inoffensive bunch really.  Most of the nastiness seems
to be personal, between individuals with a history prior to what I've
seen.  Kinda like 3 or 4 people who all want to be the alpha wolf.

As in: "I used to be a werewolf, but I'm alright noooowoooooo..."

Actually, an Exige looks pretty damned tempting.  It would be a swap
for the Seven, functionally, so that still leaves a gap? in the
lineup.  The NSX is obviously the candidate for augmentation or
replacement.  I've been round these circles before.

I wish I had the money for an F430 coupe.  Or an F40, but now I'm just
getting plain silly.

My, my, my ... give a guy some form and does he follow with the function
or what?

Here a few other fun terms:

jagoff - used extensively in the midwest, and other places, like
Minnesota ...

squirt gun - as in, "That squirt gun would get lost in a pinhole pussy"
 (pretty rude)

worm hole - as in, "I wanted to go down but it was a skanky-a.s worm
hole" (sometimes "maggot hole" has been substituted)

needle dick - fairly self-explanatory, "pencil dick" can be substituted
(not that anyone's ever said either to ME, of course)

That's probably enough for now ... maybe for good.  I'd never get thrown
out of here for being a.shole, but I might for exhibiting very bad taste.

Ummm ... in this country ... the dominant country ... it's actually
"Who's your daddy?"

And you can't put the word "now" in there unless you add the word
"bitch" or "biotch".  Let's try it, class!

"Who's your daddy?"
"Now who's your daddy, bitch?"
"Now who's your daddy, biotch?"
"Who's your daddy now, bitch?"
"Who's your daddy now, biotch?"

Very good, class!  Mr. Duffin, put on this cap and go sit in the corner.

Lurker, though have posted once or twice in the past when I was near to
purchasing a Mondial T or a 328 GTS. And I got excellent advice, though
still havent bought the car.

Located in the USA.

Do not own a Ferrari, do own two Jaguars, love cars in general, and european
cars in particular.

I cruise in once every other week to see if anything interesting comes up
but usually only read posts relating to 308s, 328s, Mondials or 355s, as I
have no interest in F1 or auto racing in general. ( weird for a car guy, but
sorry, following racing just doesnt interest me).

Long term I would like, when garage space permits, or I get bored with my
Jags,  an 88 or 89 328 GTS in Azzuro or a Mondial of similar vintage in Red.
412 appeals also, as a two door complment to my V12 Jag sedan.

Contribute once in a while when a valid car topic is posted.  Usually
check the group when online doing something else.  Oftentimes in an
airport between flights killing time.
Own a Ferrari. (have owned several over the years 328, 512)

As far as the group, it's poorly moderated so I therefore keep in touch
with my online associates via email.
A great example is the tire fiasco.  I don't and cannot care less if
you think "tire" is spelled "tyre".
America is the superpower.  We spell it "tire", so it's "tire"  Until
the US decides to spell "tire" as "tyre", it's "tire".  Or until we are
no longer the global superpower...

Reside in Texas and Arizona.

F1 is ok, but the current rules package is absurd.
It would be nice if more Ferrari owners posted here and less F1
zombies.  There is an F1 group, F1 related posts should be there.

I do find that most American Ferrari owners keep in touch through the
local Ferrari club.  That way you are guaranteed to be among peers both
automotive and financially.
My attorney and accountant both stress the need to keep a lot of
personal data off the net to limit exposure.

Its not moderated at all (thankfully), or rather it's about as moderated as
conversation in a bar. Generally, I like it that way.

Nice. You need to sort out those other countries too, some of them
don't even try to use English english, let alone the global superpower
version.

I can't say this was one of your finest posts.  I don't recall the
tire/tyre argument in this group - not that that means it didn't happen!
This is not a moderated group - at all - it never has been, so I'm not
sure what you would expect.  Surely those in the group with whom you
associate by email have told you there is no moderator.

Fact is, you should be in here because you own Ferraris.  It would be
nice if you posted more often.  Though it's not easy to ignore those
calling you out or those who feel they are better than you or know more
than you, it can be done.  We all have to do that.

Please consider.  Just my .02 (and I'm even sure if it's worth that).

<<As far as the group, it's poorly moderated so I therefore keep in

Actually, considering the fact that this group isn't moderated at all,
it's really a pretty civil place. Even with what's his name gnawing on
the scenerey occasionally.

<<A great example is the tire fiasco.  I don't and cannot care less if
you think "tire" is spelled "tyre".>>

Apparently you do.

<<America is the superpower.  We spell it "tire", so it's "tire"  Until
the US decides to spell "tire" as "tyre", it's "tire".  Or until we are

Well. That's rather pompous and arrogant. As though you should
personally get some credit for bombing the crap out of the rest of the
world. Which wouldn't be something I'd brag about anyway, even if it
were true.

<<Reside in Texas and Arizona.>>

Hot and hotter. How do your Ferraris like that?

<<F1 is ok, but the current rules package is absurd.>>

Indeed!

<<It would be nice if more Ferrari owners posted here>>

Sing it, mister!

<<and less F1 zombies.>>

Hold on there. Who exactly do you see shuffling blindly along with F1
as it currently stands?

<<  There is an F1 group, F1 related posts should be there.>>

Piffle. My Ferrari friends are here. I don't wanna go anywhere else.

<<I do find that most American Ferrari owners keep in touch through the
local Ferrari club.>>

How do you calculate what *most* of us do? The only Ferrari owners'
event that I would willingly seek out is a Historic Challenge race and
that's for the cars, not the people. And I would certainly avoid the
*local* club. Good gods, man, I live entirely too close to Beverly
Hills to chance that!

<< That way you are guaranteed to be among peers both automotive and
financially.>>

Uh-huh. See, that's about all I have remotely in common with a great
many of those people. You encounter the same problem when getting
together a large group of Ferrari owners as you do when getting
together a group of Porch or Corvette owners.

<<My attorney and accountant both stress the need to keep a lot of
personal data off the net to limit exposure.>>

Tell me that they didn't actually charge you for that information.

Contributor.

No Ferrari for awhile. No Guzzi for awhile. No Duc for
awhile... Someday though... Still working on it all. Closer
to the goal, but not there yet. Like sentence fragments much.

Midwest, USA.

As for likes/dislikes, it is what it is. There will always be
disagreements, insensitive comments, misunderstandings,
and things best left unsaid. Still, the group doesn't exist as
an end-all be-all source of all things Ferrari. The off-topic
stuff keeps me just as entertained as the Ferrari content.
As Paul said, it's basically a bar conversation online among
people with an interest in Ferraris. It meanders a bit, (okay
a LOT), but that's what conversations do.

With the occasional intoxicated posts that pop up it's even
more like a bar conversation, minus the smoke...

The periods of inactivity in the group seem to stem from the
small number of people that post regularly. I've seen other
groups that are constantly in need of refreshing due to the
number of new posts, and while I don't expect that out of
this group I see why some people might not give A.A.F. a chance.

My response to those that complain about this group is that
it's like any other conversation, sometimes you're talking to
people you like and it's good, sometimes you're talking to a
jackass and you want to just walk away. Do what you want,
we're not here to entertain anybody, it just happens sometimes.

...and sometimes we're boring as piss. If that happens go outside
and get some fresh air, catch up with us in a week or two.

I've been lurking in here (posted a few times!) for years, since around 1998
or 1999. That was the time we became interested in Ferraris, and ended up
buying a 308 GTB during the summer of 2000. We still own the car and it's
doing great. We are located in the Midwest United States.

I have to say it's been quite the experience watching the group evolve/
change as various regulars have come and gone. Can't forget the old Porsche
vs. Ferrari flame wars, NSX is better than Ferrari trolls, MC tangents,
TigerRace1 flipping over car wreck pictures, and all the other good times.

Hope i'm still lurking when you do roll again in another few years.

Definitely a lurker, with the occasional post - very occasional.

I wish...well i own a bunch in my video games - they are my primary
vehicles, just got an f40, but mainly drive the 355 challenge.

Southwestern Virginia in the mountains.  Hope to be in some REAL
mountains in a year or so when the wife finishes college - Colorado
preferrably.

I love the conversations that go on here, until the a.sholes come out
of the woodwork and show how much better than us they are(sarcasm is
hard to portray in text).  I love the fact that MOST people in here
dont care if i own a ferrari or not, and dont care that I am a poor man
who can only dream of ever even driving a ferrari, and do not care that
I am not a "peer" neither "financially" nor in automotives, unless you
drive an 80s acura or a Jeep.  I love MC's responses, especially when

I believe I held the American version of that title for some time,
thanks to a 150-foot fall down a thistle-plant carpeted hillside in
Laguna Beach, my bike falling behind, around and over me the whole way.
By the time I finally crumpled to the bottom, quite bloodied, my

point a quarter-mile away and was enjoying a Stella Artois.  I still
have a three-inch scar on my right arm to remind me about my ride that

I like the friendish atmosphere, and the feeling that I'd surely enjoy
meeting most of the contributors IRL, as we did.

I don't like the way some newcomers are sometimes/often treated, with
unnecessary rudeness. I don't like the way some of them react, as if it

Not only. The baby plus lot of work plus decaying owners' club plus
bankruptcy of my favourite garage lead to less and less time and
occasions to really drive the car. I really feel torn off, but on the
other hand I prefer selling it to someone who will drive it as it
deserves, than seeing it collecting dust in the parking.

But I must say that my research for a buyer is not really active :-/

I paid it in euros (or, more precisely, in French Francs), so I won't
make any forex gain ;-).

Actually, I find prices have been significantly decreasing for an F355
since I've bought mine. A good one can now be found for hardly more than
60,000 euros. I guess this is due to more and more 360s arriving on the
secondhand market (and to some reliability issues with F355s, I've
heard).

Well, with both leprosy and chronic halitosis, it's been tough for me.
But everybody seemed to enjoy the virtual Mike I sent to New York last
year.  They never knew a thing.  It's amazing how people take to you
when you don't have limbs falling off or can curl their hair with your
breath.  That telecourse on CGI I took a couple years ago was the best
thing I've ever done.  If you look at MCPDs wedding photos, though,
you'll see one where my doppelganger strayed a bit out of range of my
signal repeater on top of the Plaza (one of thousands I've had installed
nationwide); he appears to be half-running and half-vanishing (he was).

I've met some nice people of very different backgrounds that have a
common interest of Ferrari. I enjoy the friendly banter that is passed
around. I am entertained by MC's musings, even the softer edged ones.

I dislike people bickering about "OT posts", you don't have to read
them.
I also dislike people who complain about others spelling and typos and
then cannot be bothered to spell Porsche correctly. I thoroughly
dislike pointless personal attacks unless adressed to Mikal.

I am looking forward to the inaugural AAF global pub adventure. Did I

Of course, I was refering to the varieties often found during the pub
runs. Should the 3/£10 be beneath your palate we could always go
upmarket visit a wine bar.

I haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting T308, but I hear he might pop
in for a visit.

> Eithne???   What's wrong with 'Kylie' or 'Chardonnay', then?

Well Kylie is beautifully formed but a bit short and chardonnay has
been ruined by too much oak.

Eithne is Irish so that people have difficulty reading and pronouncing
it.

You know my rule, if I pick the wine, I pay the tab!

As for your choice, I'm sure it'll be drinkable (after a hearty intake
of pre-dinner cocktails).  Remember, the company's far more important
than the food an wine.

At least I've never met anyone named Eithne.  Here in Kalifornia, you
meet a Kylie and Chardonnay every day.

I've finally moved house. (Only took two years.)

BTW, I MOT'd a genuine 1967 GT40 race car last week, prior to it's trip to

As I recall, you mentioned if I ever moved to AZ, you would
blahblahblahblah re: your Ferrari.  Well, I'm in Prescott Valley now!
How about a trip to Jerome the next time it's relatively cool?  It might
not be until the of September, but I still think you should mark your
calendar!  (If you haven't been on the road to Jerome yet you're missing
one of the all-time great mountain roads!).  I'll cover the gas or your
lunch (probably won't be able to do both)  :-(

Thank you.

That never happens here anymore - you must be looking at a different NG,
of course!  And we killed Mikal earlier this year; pissed on his ashes
and everything.

Not anymore.  Daddy MC's here, back to stay, and he's a little more
balanced to the "high" side - no more lengthy disappearances, but plenty
of lengthy, wandering posts.  The flow will never stop now.  Hell, I
puked up (oops, contributed) some of my best stuff in recent weeks.
Tooting my own horn?  Of course!  This place provides easy practice for
my other writing projects.  I've thrown down plenty of
gauntlets for the others to go as way OT as I do.  But y'know being
purists and stuff they just keep soldiering on with those boring
technical posts.  Who cares about MCPD's inability to control his rust?
 I mean ... really now.

You know, you can set an "AAFMC" bell on your PC, it chimes every time a
post of mine appears.

And, when you need a needle-sharp jab in the eye - but oh so exquisitely
administered - you need only to stay something stupid (or something he
feels is stupid), about Ferraris or even any OT subject, and MJF the
Smiter will cut you so finely you won't know it until you're trying to
re-attach your lips.

;-)

>  Anyhow whatever happened to the Speaker?

It's a bummer, init?  I think he got stuck deep into a snow drift last
winter in that Celica GTS of his, and he probably froze solid, like the
Iceman.  His fellow Toyota club friends then squared him up and used him
in their drinks.  I loved going OT with him, it was like a privilege.

Same with the Funkraum, who also disappoints us time after time with the
nearly-permanent disappearances.  All those classified missions ... he's
probably in Uzbekistan now, bartering chickens (or potatoes) for whores.
However, he'll pop up right when we need him the most.  He always does.

Better late than never I suppose...

I like the answer that said we are regulars at the neighborhood bar/pub.

I am somewhere between a lurker and a rare contributer.
I own an 84 euro 308 GTS that is the same color as Paul's.  Purchased in
the spring of '04 after a long, nervous search.  Still pretty happy with
the purchase.  And now I'm learning how to do some of my own maintenance...
Home base is in Rochester, Minnesota, USA

I like this pub!

Cheers All!

You and our Italian friend in New York could share tips!

Sounds cold.

Wow, pretty late, but contributions of any kind are welcome!

And everyone seems to have stopped drinking on the new year (or are
drying out).  Seems that Matt's the only one still alive!

Are you doing your own work out of necessity?  Is there a Ferrari only
shop there?

Likewise!  Just wish it was more lively.....
