Yet another Ferrari wet dream

Nino Barlini - 03 Jun 2005 20:06 GMT This is major droolage here. While paging through the 5/23 Autoweek - not a whole lot of substance in the actual issue - the inside back cover had me looking for a towel. The ad was for the "Sotheby's at Ferrari" auction, to be held at Fiorano on 6/28. The car depicted, the 1962 LeMans-winning 330TI (#0808, Hill/Gendebien) immediately catapulted itself to nearly the top of my Ferrari wet-dream list, along with the P4 and the mere-regular 250 GTO. What a car. The body looked like it might have been slightly modified from original (the pic showed both). Not that I gave a flying damn, but perhaps T3 knows the particulars (like asking a dog if he wants meat).
So of course I went to the website. And I had to reach for the towel again (better than I do with most girls!) The catalogue for the auction, in PDF format, is just page after page after page of Ferrari sex. A stunning overhead photo of Fiorano. Parts of race cars for sale. Pages of car photos. Sweat running down my forehead.
Here is the link. You'll see how to get to the PDF file. If you want to buy a bound print catalogue it's $60 and more or less "buy it now or good luck". (See below.) The PDF file is huge; when I tried to print a few pages on my lowly HP 4 plus it was like the gods laughing at me. But I was able to save a copy to my hdd, so maybe someday on a nice color laser I'll have better luck. As long as I have it I'm happy, like those pictures somewhere else on my hdd. Sure, I want the print catalogue but finances are always a little tight; by the time I can afford to order one it will be gone and the gods will be laughing at me again.
As far as looking at and enjoying all this stuff, I say Go Man Go! I, OTOH, have to go take a shower.

Yes, major hack and whack. Was 0780 a TRI60 (the first TR with independent rear suspension). Built using parts from the wrecked 0772. Heavily modified to suit the 1962 "Experimental Class" for LeMans with a lengthened Tipo 568 chassis and a 4 litre Tipo 163 Superamerica engine. Renumbered 0808 classed TRI/330LM. Wrecked by Penske at LeMans in 1963. Fitted with a Fantuzzi coupe body. Restored to LeMans style by Pierre Bardinon in the 1970s. Bought in 2002 by Jim Spiro.

J.C. - 06 Jun 2005 09:50 GMT > Restored to LeMans style by > Pierre Bardinon in the 1970s. I've seen this car IRL. I visited the Bardinon collection (five Le Mans winners!!!) in 2001. I remember this one, the design of which seemed a bit odd to me, but, obviously, it's been heavily restored since. I'm not fond of these restorations which make a car look newer and shinier than it has ever been (especially race cars).

I understand that owners want to make the road cars "better than Enzo" but the race cars NEVER looked as good as they do now. Time was that Penske set the standard (with cars like s/n 1040) and even that level of preparation and presentation would be laughed off most concours fields today.
But then again, I've been down this road before...

> As far as looking at and enjoying all this stuff, I say Go Man Go! I, > OTOH, have to go take a shower. Oh, I'm on the better side: A friend of mine is a collector. Tomorrow we will watch the F1 in his private cinema -- just beside his garage. There are several Porsches (don't like them), a 330 GTS and a 330 GTC (my favorite one). Both are born in '66 as his Sebring 3500 is. Whenever I like, I may choose one for a ride ;-)
I'm new in this group and I'll have an eye on your postings.

Welcome! I sure wish I could buy that catalogue, just for the look and feel of it. But, I have the .PDF file and friends in California with bitchin' color printers. All I need to bring is a ream of paper the next time I go up there. Or, I can just look at it on my computer.
BTW - "Nino" is "The Dream" is "Michael Delaney" is "Lugo Abratte" is plain old MC. I like to mix it up a bit. Would it be that the real Nino Barlini could post here, but he is a figment of some screenwriter's imagination.

P.S. Under the heading WHAT THE HELL?, I just noticed that some place called www.autoforumz.com archives this newsgroup! I suppose it's legal, but WTF? Shouldn't we be entitled to some type of royalty, damnit? I need to put some gas in the shitwagon. Maybe I should have a straight talk with these bastards (I guess I just did - no offense, guys, just pay up or I'll kill you all!) If you've been peeping on us this whole time you know my prowess with a knife (or mostly my mouth - if straight up profanity or evil threats of doom don't do it or even halitosis, then out comes the blade).

I'm envious. Why not buy another one for me? I can fix your computer if it ever breaks (you'd have to fly me in from Arizona), I can write stuff, like your epitaph if you want to have it on file now, or essay papers for your kids, etc. It would be worth $60.

Seriously, though ... to be honest: as much as I hate Microsoft, my solution would probably be to kick the living sh.t out of that server and then throw it out the window and advise you to switch to SendMail. So, if that's worth $60, please get me that catalogue before they run out.

Replacing the box and the OS is not the problem. I can do that. It's migrating all the data, crap and configuration stuff that's on it. Let's drop this. It's way off topic.

If anybody else here starts bitching about whats on and off topic I could work a Ferrari thing into it. But we're not real tidy about on topic/off topic around here anyway!

RicDeez - 16 Jun 2005 17:00 GMT ExMerge is your friend. However it is quite annoying when you have hundreds of mail boxes. I have also done a complete exchange recovery using priv.edb and pub.edb as my only files that made it through a crash - the hardest part is recreating the server, it MUST have the same fqdn along with a few other annoyances

I'm retired, anyway - and my technical acumen fades into the distance with each passing day. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! The taste of it!
Get back to work, Ric. Your company needs you.
