90 Testarossa "Slow Down" lights

Yes folks a real Ferrari question.
I got the dreaded slow down lights for cylinders 1-6 today.  Here's
some background.  Hot Houston weather, speed between 60 and 110. Light
traffic.  My gut feeling is it's an O2 sensor on the cats, but car did
lose power about 5 seconds after light came on.
Pulled off after about 2 mins and waited about 30 mins.  Car started
fine and drove on without incident.  I have had this with another
Ferrari, but not this one and never had the loss of power.  I am pertty
sure the computer shut down one cylinder bank.  I hear sometimes it
helps to reset the computer.  I have never done this.  Posted to fchat
as well and I did read some of the archives for the same issue.  Just
looking for other who have had the power loss when the light comes on.

Any ideas.

Power loss would tie in with a bank shutting down would tie in with raw fuel
finding its way into the cats which would cause over heating in the
cats.....As to the computer "shutting down" one bank - is it even
sophisticated enough to do that? No doubt it might on the newer models but I
don't know if the late 80's ECUs were that clever.

Apart from the O2 sensor I'd be inclined to look towards your ignition
system. You may be losing a whole bank periodically or maybe just one
cylinder (which you'd hardly notice I think). Either would cause raw fuel to
end up in the cats which would cause them to overheat sooner or later. Too
much of it will destroy the cats so suggest you get it looked at & diagnosed
ASAP.

Try the Fchat archives - lots of people have been through similar I think.

I was chatting with Ferrari of Atlanta (who services my 90 Testarossa) and
they said that those 'slow down' lights usually indicate ignition problems
as Iain points out. I trust you are up-to-date on your major/minor service
intervals?

Lost the habit of posting?

...or was that a silent posting to show respect for the poor man's dead
cats?

p.s. Nice to... um... 'hear' from you.

Keyboard knackered. Bloody cleaners!

I was merely going to agree with the comments made by my learned friend, Mr
Miller.

Hi y'all

(Is it me, or is the TR becoming more attractive? Could go for a 512 in the
right colour...)

Service up to date...until now :-)
I still have the facrtory cats installed, so now will be a good time to
change that out for the aftermarket polished ones.  I am going to have
the car serviced this week and will see what they find.

I'm sure she'll apreciate the compliment, but si there any future in it?
I mean
you're already married, she's about to get married and Paul's a nice
guy,  so
I doubt...

<blush>.

...Oh, *512* TR...     Ooops...

Well maybe just maybe Ferrari needs to bring the 512 back without those damn
headlight panels of the 512M.

Best, :)

Hmm... if you read it that way, it sounds like I'm only attractive
because the 512 is the right colour. Like there haven't been enough
jokes around here lately about *package deals* and all that, what with
the wedding coming up this weekend. Of course, there are also a few
Morgans in that package, just to keep things interesting. Did I mention
that we had another one blow up on the dyno t'other day? Such fun.

I see you twice in two years and you expect to be invited to my
wedding? Sheesh.

See? Matt remembered how this is gonna work. Ya'll are coming to one
(or both) of the receptions we're having. We haven't set dates for
those yet, let alone sent out invitations though. Patience, fer pity's
sake. Patience. Sheesh.

you, my wife went crazy.  Enjoy!

<<Let others do the stressing for you, my wife went crazy.>>

Heh. I've got nothing to stress over. This'll be a tiny, little
wedding. Hopefully the ceremony itself will take all of ten minutes and
then we can get to the champagne and chocolate. And the marriage
itself, of course. That's the part I'm really looking forward to.

wedding coming up this weekend.

Missed that one.  Must pay attention.

Many congratulations and very best wishes for the future.

(I've missed the reception. I don't s'pose there's any chance of an invite
to the consumation? )

No ya haven't. Neither one.

<< I don't s'pose there's any chance of an invite to the consumation?>>

Oh, now that you've missed. My best friend was quite insistent that a
marriage be consummated on the wedding night. She said that we only had
the one chance to do so and would regret it if we didn't. So we did.

TMI?

Some words are more fun than others. Rolling them around on your tongue
just feels nice. Ferrari is one of those...

Damn Mikey for spoiling the surprise! BTW, 2 Buck Chuck is up to 4

Damn! 100% growth PA! if I'd kept it for 30 years it would have been
worth...

...um...

let's see now,

Year 1    $2
Year 2    $4
Year 3    $8
Year 4    $16
Year 5    $32
Year 6    $64
Year 7    $128
Year 8    $256
Year 9    $512
Year 10   $1024
Year 11 ..um.. (those last numbers were easy-peasy for those of us in
IT) $2048
Year 12  $4096
Year 13 ...um
Year 14 ...oh, I dunno, quite a lot.
Year 15 ...um, a bit more, must be about $20,0000 by now
Year 16 ...er, quite a lot more
Year 17 ...um

Oh anyway,  in 30 years it must be close to a squillion dollars!

To think I quaffed my pension fund!

Oh great! Now I'm even more confused.

Much as I quite like the 'bad man' tag, I have to confess that I don't have
the foggiest idea  what  you're on about.

Anyway, I said 'go-on', not 'get on'.

;-)

Wow, same language, different planets!

To an American, what you said sounded like you were asking
for details about the evening. Now she's gonna be disappointed...

Now all we need is an Aussie in here to really confuse everyone.

Information. Is that what you were saying? You didn't understand the
acronym?

I'm afraid not -  It's not an acronym I use.

Anyway,  about this consumation business. Where were we?

Have we reached the parading of the sheet bit?

Was Sir John Mills there?

Fairy-nuff.  Maybe I was traveling at speed, in poor light, and caught this
particular example at just the right angle.

It was black, sinister, and looked like a Ferrari- not a Fiat Barchetta.

Saying that, I don't think I could handle the 70's switch-gear, etc., again.

My present motor may be a little soul-less, but it does what it says on the
tin.
