2.4 JTD Thermostat  ?

I 'think' I may have a sticky thermostat - Sometimes the temp needle
fluctuates a bit, sometimes stays on the upper range then drops instantly to
normal intermittantly, and usually/normally sits in the normal middle
position.

Is this likely, and how hard is it to change the thermostat - assuming it's
not stuck in the LHS of the engine  !

(Don't think the coolant has been changed yet)

thanks

Graham.

Maybe check coolant level first; the cause for such a symptom may be too low
coolant level - it was in my case ;)  (Fiat Tipo).

Done that and it is Ok, just under the Max mark on the coolant tank. Another
thought was maybe sticking valves on the heater matrix.

Well, it could be sticking valves, it could be sticky thermostat (most
probably) or some pump difficulty in case there is enough coolant. Maybe
there are (big) air gaps in the cooling system (in this case the symptoms
are similar - and the coolant level seems ok) ...
Wish you to fix it ;)
Enjoy your drive!

oh, yes, one more thing: could be the temp. measurer or its electric
contact(s).
