Hi I have just had my mk1 Punto 1.7 TD Diesel serviced. When i turn the key
to start it, on the left of the dashboard panel next to the orange glow
plug symbol another light flickers on next to it. It is ornage, like a
petrol can with wavy lines at the bottom of it (it's not the petrol can
symbol for the oil as that comes on on the ohter side of the dashboard.)
It has NEVER come on until i got the service done yesterday and there is
nothing in the manual about it. More than anyhting it's really bugging
me!!! thanks

How old is the car, more recent Fiat diesels have a sensor to detect excess
water in the fuel filter.  I would have expected the fuel filter to have
been replaced during the service or at least had the condensate removed -
possibly the garage disturb the sensor somehow.

Not likely to be the water in fuel filter sensor then as I don't think it
would have been present on a 94 car.

I converted that to English using Babelfish.  I can't stop laughing!  Here is the translation for the battery light:

When this indicator ignites, it announces an insufficiency of the load of the battery. The battery makes it possible to feed in electric power all the devices of edge (lighting external, radio, ventilation, lighting of the engine), but it must for that constantly be reloaded.
This load is ensured by the engine, through the alternator. This one is pulled by a belt, which thus turns only when the engine is moving. If it is insuffisament tended or if it breaks, the alternator does not fulfill any more its function and the battery discharges gradually.

If the witness ignites moving normal, one can continue to roll until being able to stop in full safety. Indeed, the battery does not discharge instantaneously. It is at this stage that one establishes the diagnosis by opening the cap. Mechanical fault of competence, it is possible to roll, with moderated pace, the garage nearest.

But attention! As curious as that can appear, a bad load of the battery can also involve an overheating engine. I am explained: the belt which actuates the alternator is sometimes also used for the water pump which allows the cooling of the engine. If it does not turn any more, the engine is likely to undergo serious mechanical problems (rupture of the cylinder head gasket etc).

Therefore, if this indicator ignites, not panic, roll to the garage nearest by supervising the temperature to the engine.

I think he has the orange version of the oil light and "If this witness flickers too a long time, it is absolutely necessary to make the appoint under penalty of destroying the engine shortly."
