I?ve had power steering problems for some time, where the power
steering cuts out intermittently. I took it into the Fiat garage who
could not find what the problem was and suggested I waited until it
went totally.
This morning driving the car the electrics went crazy. The dash lights
kept going on and off, the radio was doing the same. I pulled over and
turned the engine off. When I attempted to turn the engine back on,
the dash lights lit, but the car wouldn?t even turn over. The radio,
fan, windows are all working, but nothing at all from the ignition.
Any ideas appreciated (before the Fiat dealers fleece me again).

Sounds like a grounding problem. Check if the engine has grounding (-) to
the chassis.

Fiat are prone to ground problems check for tightness and clean all ground
points

With the electric power steering motor being behind the dashboard I
would suggest that it is a grounding problem as well, but probably
behind the dashboard. An auto-electrician would be a better bet than
most Fiat garages.

I would agree it could well be a grounding problem. However, my Punto had an
occasional problem with ignition and radio, which was eventually cured by
going to those four nice big fuses next to the battery, and lifting them up
and re seating them in their sockets a few times. Worth a try, its free!

I have had a similar problem this morning with my punto. I could not turn
off the back windoscreen wiper or the front lights even when i turned off
the ignition and took the keys out. When the ignition was turned on the
front windoscreen wipers and the air wouldnt work and the front lights
were not very strong and an orangy colour.
I have a problem with my exhaust and called into a garage this morning and
they said that there is two holes in the exhaust. I asked them about the
above issues and they dont do electrics. Would i be better off going to
another garage to get both fixed at the same time? They quoted my ?150 to
fix the exhaust but werent very helpful when it came to the electrics
problems.

Perhaps you better go to an electronics specialist for the electrical
problem(s).
