No as far as I know, it's only an issue with the 04' explorers. But
knowing that, I still wouldn't get the 02' because they had a lot of bugs
because they were a new model. If anything go with a nice 2003 explorer
and skip the 2000 explorers because they had timing chain problems.

Oh man, this is getting complicated! How widespread were the '02's problems?
Specifics anyone?
I can't afford a 2003 EB, but I also can't afford a handful of problems,
either. Is there any easy way of
telling if a used 2000 that I might be looking at would have had the chain
issue already fixed?

'02 EB, V6, over 25,000 miles, bought new. It was also a very early build,
in 2001.
No trouble, or "bugs". It had a DPFE valve go bad in December, but that
caused only minor engine stumbling, and only at part throttle.
This is the third "first-year" Ford I've bought, and I've never had "bugs".
I'd buy one again, easily.
