My Spare Fell Off Too--Was There A Recall?

Before I call Ford I just wanted to know if the spare tire cable was ever
actually recalled and if I should expect them to replace it for free or not.
The only posts I found on the subject were from 2000 and were not
conclusive.

My spare tire fell off my 97 several years ago when I was raising the spare
tire back up under the truck. I forked over the bucks for the replacement
winch assembly at the local dealer (which I learned recently would negotiate
on price and would be competative with the online parts dealers). It was
around $80 IIRC. Fairly easy replacement, two bolts maybe and all I used
was a socket wrench. I didn't look at trying to buy replacement cable and
"re-stringing" the wire in the old winch. Let us know if Ford pays for your
replacement.
