Vehicle is a '98 V6 SOHC. Want to covert the stock air box to a universal
air filter(K&N). The mass air flow sensor has a 3 inch opening. Have seen
samples online and they used a 3 inch filter attatched to the sensor. Is
there such a way; Can this be done? Or have to use an actual aftermarket
air flow kit?

if you go to an oil based filter the MAF will get coated and reduce the
air/fuel mix. making the engine run lean less horse power. if you more
power clean the MAF with carb cleaner
