2002 Ex. 4.6. Service engine soon lite came on at 35675 miles. I have done all warranty maint. already. What should I check for now? How do I cancel this light? It indicates that the ECM (computer) detected a problem. Have it scanned for trouble codes, diagnosed and repaired. But before you spend any money, there is one thing you can do: check that the fuel cap is tight. A loose fuel cap will set a trouble code and turn on the CEL. My '05 Limited shows a message "change oil soon", starts long before time for oil change and sometimes chimes when it appears. I got so sick of it I finally reset the oil change to stop it.
