fuel tank is full but gauge reads empty. any ideas?

First thing comes to mind is a sunk float but a little diagnosis might help
avert pulling the tank needlessly.... a few little hints might help.... like
maybe at least a year???

Can the float be repaired by soldering the bulb?

I tried that. It worked for about a week.
I wouldn't recommend it.

as Jim mentioned earlier, do some looking before pulling tank.
i had an older truck that alway registered empty. mechanic said bad float.
i pulled tank and checked float-it was fine. problem was connection at the
tank.

It is fairly common for the sender to go bad at the very top of the
float position. So when you fill completely it reads empty, but as the
gas level drops a bit it starts working again.
