My '05 Limited has a crack in the lens of the left tail light.  Dealer
quoted $108 for part and $35 to install.  I found the part at
fordpartsonline for $65.  Question is how difficult is the
installation?  Any special tools needed?

Do it yourself, you just need a phillips screwdriver. Open the remove
remove the screws and pull the lens assembly towards you, the top part
is held with barbs, it will sound bad as you pull it but don't worry
about it.

Check on eBay. I got an aftermarket one for my 92 for about $35
