Explorer 4wd problem

I have a 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4WD V6 in the UK, and have covered
36K miles.
A few weeks ago I noticed while driving that both the 4wd Hi and 4wd Lo
dash indicators flashed on at the same time. They flashed 1 second on 1
second off 3 times then repeated this every 2 mins for about 10 - 15 mins.
After stopping the car and restarting the engine I have not seen this
problem till now. But now when I start the engine the speedo indicates
full scale for 1 second then back to 0. I can hear what sounds like the
heating control baffle motors operating back and forth. Also if I try to
select drive the car jolts into gear as if LOW gear. If driven at 30mph
the revs appear normal for this speed, but the speedo indicates about
90mph.
I live in the UK and no garage has a clue on this model.
Can anyone tell me whats wrong?

I had a similar problem on my '98.
I think it's something to do with the speed sensors (there are 2 located on
the transfer case)
I got underneath, disconnected the sensors, then reconnected them,
disconnected the battery for 10 mins, reconnected it and hey presto no more
problem. (and that was last September)
