Just received a letter from Firestone offering replacement on Wilderness
AT.  My never on the ground spare is subject.  I want it replaced with
the Michelin LTX M/S which I had put on there during the first recall.
The local Firestone people will replace only with Firestone/Bridgestone
product.  Anyone have this experience and get something other than a
Firestone product as a replacement?

What do you care if it is only for your never-on-the-ground spare?

It's not that I think stupidity should be punishable by death.
I just think we should take the warning labels off of everything
and let the problem take care of itself.

Actually I remember reading recently that someone had a fatality/blow out
(in CA?) after putting on their Wilderness AT spare after having a flat.
Firestone is trying to get all the tires as I guess a lot of them are still
out there.

Some time back at a routine service call the dealer offered to replace the
Firestone spare with a Michelin Cross-Terrain and did so as part of the 2nd
phase of the recall, within months of the original. I had already gotten
Michelin LTX-MS tires for all the others. The Cross-Terrain tire has never
moved since.

I was surprised to get that letter on the recall! Who didn't know about that
way back when it happened?

RJ,
My local Ford dealer replaced my Firestone spare with a Michelin LTX
M/S to match the other four LTX tires that I also received at the
dealership as part of the recall.

Good Luck!
