Thermostat replacing

Hi Everyone,
I read a few posts about a sticking thermostat and think I may have
one as well. I am looking for it with no luck but is it possible the
thermostat is on the radiator cap? I've seen pictures and it looks
like the part underneath the cap which sticks in the radiator.
Otherwise, I can't find it on my truck. Thanks in advance for your
help.
BTW, I have a 96 Explorer Eddie Bauer.

Find the upper radiator hose. Locate one end of said hose. Is the end of the
hose attached to the radiator? If the answer is yes, locate the other end of
the hose. If the answer is no, you've found the thermostat housing.

If I may add just a little more...

On my '91 and '92 with the 4.0 OHV engine there are 3 10mm bolts that hold
on the thermostat housing which looks like a short, curved pipe. You need
to remove the air intake duct (long plastic thing that goes to the air
cleaner) and it's a whole lot easier to work if you remove the serpentine
belt. You also may need to disconnect a wire that tends to get in the way.
The bottom bolt is hard to get to and may require a small 10mm end wrench
rather than a socket.
