97 Explorer XLT dome lights?

Hi
I'm trying to figure out how to keep the interior dome lights off (all
three of them) when i want to leave the tail gate up. I do a lot of surf
fishing with my explorer and the tail door gets opened quite a bit. I'd
like to leave it open when i'm on the beach.

I read my manuals (no help). Tried the dimmer switch , tried the parking
brake no avail.

Help! Please!

TIA

Doesn't the light goo off by itself after about 5 min?

You can shut off the dome lights on the '99 XLT using the dash light
dimmer wheel.  Don't know if they are the same or not, but HTH.

To shut the interior lights off while the tailgate or liftgate are open,
merely close the latches by hand...I do it all the time while cleaning,
chilling on the lake with music on, or transporting large items with the
gate open.

Just be sure to "unlock/open" the latches before trying to actually close
the gates.

Thank you very much Vito!

I'll give that a try . It's better then pulling the fuse. (my last ditch
idea)
