Help!! Need quick reply must get home from vacation.....I have a
Mercury 1998 Sable.....at high speeds the speedometer act eratically
jumping from 0 to the speed of the car and the "service car soon"
light comes on and the o/d light comes on....if the car rests for
awhile the problem goes away temporarily only to come back when high
speed is maintained.....the odometer also ceases to operate when the
speedometer is down on 0 and remains there for some time.....the car
can travel for miles without the operation of either....it may be
blockage in air hoses???.....thank you for any help you can offer.

It strikes me as an electrical problem within the instrument cluster,
loose connector, defective voltage regulator, etc.  I do not think you
will have a problem traveling with the fault.
