The flashing OD light is an indication that the PCM can help diagnose this
concern..... AutoZone or such *may* be able to retrieve the codes - all scan
tools are not created equal and my only experience is with high end units.
All the same, I get the feeling that we will only see shaft speed codes
which will lead us to hydraulic or mechanical problems..... but we wont know
until we look.
You fail to mention trans fluid level, colour and odour....... have you
checked????

Hi Jim,
Level of fluid is OK. Smells a little, not strong.
I have a correction, it hesitates to shift from
2nd to 3rd gear. When it does shift, it shift hard
when accelerating. Also, When driving along in fourth
gear the engine seems to be restricted, no power to
accelerate. Could this be Catalytic Converter or fuel
filter causing this? Or something worse?
Thanks in advance,
simon

Yes, engine performance concerns can appear to be transmission trouble......
but before you go too far afield, there is still that pesky , flashing O/D
liight. The transmission is trying to tell you something and it's likely in
your best interest to listen. Whatever it is trying to say, may be a
valuable clue as to where to apply your diagnostic efforts.

Jim,
Got a reading..... PO733 - 3rd gear problem. Seems
the transmission is slipping shifting from 2nd to 3rd
gear. Could this be the 3rd gear clutch? Nevertheless,
transmission overhaul is on the cover of this novel....
Thanks for your help,
simon
I have a similar problem in that the O/D blinks but it does not go into the
NON overdrive mode. I've only taken it out of overdrive when doing city
driving.

I heard that there is a problem with FORD EXPLORER transmissions I have mine
(2000 4X4) in a repair shop now for a $2200.00 overhaul that I think is
total bull**** 58,000 miles and the transmission is shot ?
I WANT TO KNOW WHO I CAN CALL TO FREAK OUT ON ?
thank you all
