Iam getting intermittent shudder thru the steering column when I apply the
brakes.

Its intermittent and doesnt always occur, but is really bad on a downhill
application of the brakes.
It also seems worse after the car is warm (Maybe thats coz im driving
faster)

I have had the tyre balanced twice and they r ok,and they give no vibration
under straight driving.
Any ideas on the likely problem please

the disks are warped,

Have them replaced, machining is a waste of time and new ones aren't much
anyway.

How can discs warp as my BA seems to have the same problem?

brakes will never ever be as good as they used to be, when 100% asbestos was
used and the disks were actually made of hard metal.

Eh, its either lung cancer or constantly wearing brake disks.

FF your BA probably has DTV (disk thickness variation) as opposed to
warping, its a known problem and fixed under warrenty with a light
machining or in some cases replacement rotors.

I hope so - sh.ts me as the car has only covered 11,500 odd km

I have had my BA XR front disks machined twice now and I have just
covered 11,000km's. Another guy with a BA XR got new disks and our
first BA purchase in Oct last year is perfectly OK

Question is does the problem disappear permanently after the discs are
machined or will it reappear at a later date?

Yes it can do, but from what I can gather, the first machining cures
the problem. They will machine the rotors a max of 3 times, after that
they will replace them although I do known of replacements after one
machining.

Some times  my ea shuddered, so i took off teh pads and filed off the shiney
surface and problem went away  could also be incorrect type of pads as they
skim across and create a smooth surface  and bit everynow and then  worse at
low speed  try scuffing down all ya pads

The Raven: U could have something there, its sure worth a try,coz even if the
rotors r cheap, they will then want to the bearings/pads and everything
else, and it wont end up a cheap job.
U r right its far worse at low speed than high speed

Tks

Try removing all ya padsand remove the smooth surface i used wet and dry
with a course type, worked fine now all squealing and biting has gone

It's worse in summer - heaps of Falcons have brake squeal probs due to
glazed pads from the heat. Sand 'em back first 'reckon.

I've had what appears to be 'brake shudder' when the front shocks are R/S
but that was on one of those ancient XC's. Just a bit of info anyhoo.
