Hello,

If any of you can answer the following questions, I'd be most grateful.

1. What is the power difference between a normal EB Falcon and the EB XR6
engine? How does it's power-to-weight ratio compare with the current non-XR
Falcons, or non-S(S) Commodores?

2. I saw an XR6 (Turbo -- I think) with GT-style stripes. Is some company
doing after-market stripes or would they have got them from FPV?

3. I saw a Ute that had FPV logos on it, but on the back and the side skirts
(you know where an XR8 says "XR8") I assumed that this car would have
"Pursuit" as it does in the FPV brochure but, it had "XR" (with no 6 or 8)
in those places. Anyone know what the story with that is? Maybe someone
putting "XR" logos on 'cause they like it.

Quesion 1 is related to the story this week where an 18 year-old P-Plater
and his 15 yr old cousin died in an accident when test-driving an EB XR6.

== Rant:
The media is up-in-arms "P-Platers shouldn't be allowed to drive
'high-powered cars'!" and so on. So 2 young people died, that's sad, but
according to the police he *wasn't* speeding, so that means that the
"High-Powered" theory doesn't stand up. Someone has written a letter to the
editor saying P-Platers should only be able to drive 1.8litres or less cars.
Right, that's crazy. We (yes, I'm a P-Plater) wouldn't be able to drive
Falcons, Commodores, Focuses (auto -- they have 2 litres), Camrys, Magnas,
Mazada 323 (some models), the *entire* subaru range, or 2litre VW Beetles!

Basically banning P-Platers from driving over half the cars on the roads!
Basically anything except Barinas, Astras, Corollas and Lasers. Hope they
don't make any laws about that! I drive an AU Falcon Forte and I (and
everyone else :) feel much safer in that than some silly hatch-back.
== End Rant

Cheers,

Back in the dark ages, when I was a p plater at 17, I drove a 2litre 83
Mazda 929, gutless as hell, a whopping 55Kw, and it almost killed me.
Farking retread exploded on the front left wheel at 100km/h. I ended up
almost rolling over and very far and deep into soft sand. Any car can kill,
not just "high powered ones"

I never saw an F250 bake its wheels before, but this sure made it happen
when they tried pulling it out.

If for some demented reason the pollies did try to pull this stunt, it would
not be retrospective, so you are safe.

It really is an insult to the intelligence when people say assinine things
like limiting P-platers to 1800cc and below as most 1100cc cars from
yesteryear will well and truly break all speed limits FFS!
