So what is the trick in getting a battery out of an EL Falcon. Unbolt it but
it still won't budge. Has a plastic cover around it which seems to not want
to separate. Is this supposed to stay behind or does it come out with it??
Is there something else holding it????

IIRC, you undo the bolt that holds the bar over the top of it, and it
should lift out. BUT... it's a real prick to lift. The plastic cover is
not meant to come out, but I think it can be lifted out too. Took me a
fair while to master in my EF2.

Maybe it has the foot retainer fitted as well?? Some batts have a raised
ridge at the base on the two opposing narrow ends. They then mounted a small
bracket which held the battery firm using these ridges.

Undo the bolts holding the battery box in. It's 3 10mm bolts. I found if you
run a decent battery it has to be forced into the battery box. Most 550cca
batteries have to be forced in. Once you've got the battery and box out, you
should be able to wiggle the battery out as the box will flex, which it
can't do when bolted in.

they are just a prick to remove. I just pull out the whole plastic
heatsheild aswell.

Just remember for your next battery to get one with a built in carry handle.
it will be easy to remove then.

Exactly what I did. I got a battery with a handle.

instead of pulling apart your car... why not get two (2) monkey wrenches and
pull it out.

attach a wrench to each terminal and pull it straight out. it will be
heavy... but it is the best way to do it without a battery strap/carrier.

this will eliminate the need to pull anything else out but the battery.

wouldn't it be a risk to snap off a terminal, drop the battery and get acid
in ones eyes ?

terminals wont snap off. this is how the mechanics do it at work when a
battery clamp is not available. just in case you are wondering... it is a
ford dealership.

if you have a few muscles you shouldn't drop it. besides you shouldn't be
holding by the terminals for so long that you do drop it.

do they rub grease all over the interior of the cars there like my local
dealer?

Or charge for things they don't do like my local dealer?

Yep, mines done that too.

I even marked the lower radiator hose before taking it in asking for it to
be changed.
surprise surprise, the mark was still there. Abused the sh.t out of the
service manager, then complained to that hotline they called me the next
day - only after complaining to that hotline did I get a refund.

f.ck the c.nts, ill never go in for dealer servicing.

Easiest way after unbolting batery is to hook a ring spanner over each
terminal and lift out of the plastic box that surrounds the battery.  Once
out the battery box can be simply removed with a screwdriver.
