Thanks for the info guys. I thought my mums was a 4 speed and they went to
a 3 speed at the start of the EA's, but mine is a series 2 where they
changed back. Is this right or wrong. Want to change it as mine is
clunking mainly in top gear, and mums is working perfect, so a cheap fix.
By the way, mum just bought an EL, so the XF is now sitting there.

The XF had a 3spd auto which continued on to the series 1 EA. SII EA
got the 4spd auto, the first 3 ratios are the same in both boxes and
iirc they both use the same diff ratio so no problems there with the
conversion.
In the early 4spd auto days cabbies converted back to the 3spd auto as
it was $3K+ to rebuild the 4spd vs around $600 for the 3spd, i'd call
an auto trans co and ask them how much to do the conversion.
