I have an EL Ghia that does exactly what you're describing, and oddly enough
only started doing it after a visit to a dealer. I didn't know they had
different modes etc, just thought the transmission was on the way out (even
though the car only has 90K on it now, and the problem started around the
60-70K mark)...
Presuming it is the same thing, how do I reprogram mine into adaptive shift
mode so I can get rid of this awful thud.
Cheers,
Jason.

you cant, its not a feature on yours.
diff clunking is not uncommon at all with aussie made Holden's and fords.
bloody unlikely your tranny will be screwed at 90,000ks unless its been
thrashed every day of its life.

I am curious as to what major differences (if any) were made between the
three AU series Falcons and, also, is there any "known" major mechanical
problems that I
should watch for in my AU11 at higher mileages?
I have an SR AU11 approx 29K and, to date, dealer has attended to a "clunk"
when reversing with steering on hard lock; and another occasional "clunk"
when auto in reverse. Neither of these problems were picked up by dealer
until raised with them.
