Hey Guys
Got a EL Fairmont Ghia and had the battery changed last year (around
feb/march '03) by NRMA, and had them put one of the NRMA batteries in
(needed battery then and there), and have just found that lately the car has
been really really sluggish when she starts up. Battery has always been
topped up with water, and I have NFI what else could be causing the probs.
How often do you have to change a Car battery, also what are the better type
of battery to put in your car? Went to repco and all they could offer me was
a $110 battery that I could get in Big W for $96. Also before I go, my
driver's side rear brake light is out, but when I hit the back casing the
light seems to flick back on, is there anyway I can change the globe myself
(if so what globe is it I get?) or do I have to take it to a
electrician/mechanic?
Thanks yet again guys
Dallas

ahhh, it takes 2 seconds to change the globe, assuming you own a Phillips
screwdriver. There's 2 screws on the tail light, undo them, then bang the
tail light away from the centre of the car and it will unhook. - no 4 year
apprenticeship required for this.

Hope it wasn't tap water you've been putting in the battery.

Oh okay. Will go and have a quick look now at the globe.

LMAO - no I did use distilled water. :)
Thanks for the help on the globe.

The battery i use in my EA is a 12 plate, or heavy duty  over the next 5
years the now 12 volt battery is too slowly vanish, i watched a program the
other nite on how the present battery is not good enough to fully operate
all the functions in today's cars. Gps, dvd, all in all 1800 functions. The
tv program explained how a newer 42 volt battery is being designed and will
be fitted to cars after perhaps 2010 or later.

As for the rear tail light, could be a bad circuit, or is earthing some
place or the globe has worn slightly to such a point where the contacts dont
touch fully all the time, perhaps the spreings have compressed where it
shouldnt. I found on light rainy days the EA built up moistre and at times
caused me hassles. So i drilled 2 internal 1/8 inch holes and glued a length
of plastic tubing from below the tail light out on to the road way. No more
blowing globes and the moistre seems to be far less.

Good luck

Peter
