Hi,
Ddont really know if this the place to ask this sorta stuff but any way
here goes. After my poor laser died yesterday i was wondering what a good
price would be on a mid range falcon of the models named would be. Im still
a student and dont have a large budget but in time would eventually do and
fix up the falcon. Any help would be very helpful.
Thanks.

just acquired for a friend a mint condition ED with new 2 pack paint & alloy
wheels, head gasket just changed and everything else in great shape for
$4700 - private sale.
Were looking in car yards and they were trying to flog EB's for 5k EF's for
7-10k, and wouldn't budge on the price, even a crusty, worn out ED Fairmont
ghia for 10K, F that for a joke.

Hi ;
Dosnt really matter, its what teh car looks like and how its been
looked after, Ea EB or Ed look at milage on speedo condition of car, then
decide some EA's are still in good condition and worth buying. Maybe you
can get the NRMA or what ever your state service is and check the car out.

Don't know about prices but I can tell you which are the choice models.
Not much money to spend - EBII S-XR6 (original XR6 which was such a
revelation at that time)
Much money to spend - ED S-XR8 Sprint (same running gear as the 25th
anniversay GT model)
Keep away from the EAs - especially 1988 & 1989 models. Too many bugs.

Of allthe second-hand cars around, the Falcon represents the best value for
money. You can get a mechanically sound Falc EA-EB for < $3000. You just
need to take along someone who knows what to look for regarding mechanical
condition of Motor-trans-suspension-steering,..the body you can decide :-)

I picked up an EA 1990 that looked great - motor seemed great all seemed
well - even had the 2 extra seats in the back for $2650 - well 1 month later
broken head bolts and water everywhere.. $660 later - all seems good again.
My suggestion - if you get an ea - get the radiator serviced - mine was
only 40% clear - i found this when using the air con when travelling ok but
as soon as i got caught in traffic temp went up - and expect you may need a
new / recond or skimmed head. Also watch for shuddering brakes (another
known prob with ea's)

head problems are common with EA's but given you used a decent mechanic to
fix it, it should last atleast another 100,000k's or more before it happens
again.

a good mechanic will do a good job , so the ONLY way an ea will drop a
head gask these days is if he doesn't do the right stuff. its easy work

incorrectly ?
