Ford ZL Fairlane P/windows

Hi Guys.

Can anyone tell me where the Power Window relay is located for a 1985 ZL
Ford Fairlane (efi model)

The windows have stopped working, yet if I hotwire the motors direct they
all work fine. I have replaced the driver side switching unit but still no
success.

The windows do not work on their individual door switched either. I have
traced the + relay wire feed to the switch unit (Grey/yellow wire) and it
has no power at all.

I can only assume that the next step is to replace the relay, but I have no
idea where it is located and my workshop manual does not tell me either.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards

Have you checked the solder joints on the switch ?
renowned to separate and costs a fortune to replace, but 2 minutes to
resolder.

All the switches work fine, when I hot wire the power wire which runs
between the relay and the drivers side master control. When I put full 12v
power to this wire everything works. All switches work and all the windows
go up and down.

There is just no power getting to the master switch from the relay. This is
why I believe it is the relay that has gone. I even checked the fusible link
and it appears OK.

well, since you've found that there no power coming from the relay, its time
to check the relay.

Give 12v to the coil and check that the resistance between the Normally Open
contacts is 0ohms

Then just check that there is 12V getting to the coil, if there isn't, then
the problem is further back still, possibly rooted ignition barrel contacts
etc..

wasn't the question about where is the relay located ?

Yes. That was the question.

from the ignition, check for a violet/red wire which goes to a relay which
could be the ACC relay for the power windows, then a grey/yellow wire to the
window regulator.
Not exactly sure of the colours for the ZL

According to the schematic diagram the wire from the relay to the driver
side master switch is a grey/yellow wire.
There are in fact 2 of these wires going to the same 3 pin plug in the
drivers door (the 3rd pin is earth) but they have no power going to them at
all.
This is the wire that I have hotwired up to 12volt + and all the windows
worked fine. Without the hot wire, nothing works except the central locking.

Sorry, I meant to say from the fuse box find the violet/red wire
