Which wheels are these?

Hi everyone,

I'm about to replace the tyres on my car, and need some help.

I'm pretty sure that the tyres which are currently on it are not the
"standard size" for the wheels, and this seems to be confirmed by the
owners manual - none of the various listed sizes match what's on them at
the moment.

So, can someone help me identify what wheels these are, and what their
"standard" tyre size is? The images (250kb each) are here:

Excuse the dirt :-)

The car is an ED Falcon GLi, and was originally a cop car (if that makes
any difference). The wheels are 15" and I assume some sort of genuine
Ford wheels (as they have a Ford logo in the center cap). The tyres that
are currently on it are 215/60/R15.

Cheers,
Matt

Usually would be 205 tyres for that wheel, Matt. I think the wheels are a
Ford wheel generally seen on some of the utes.

So if normally 205 wide, would I be looking for 65 profile (205/65R15)
rather than the current 60 profile (215/60R15)?

Thanks for the info :-)

Matt

took a look at the pics and in order to make out what size those wheels are
I had to apply a negative filter and rotate them, which then gave me:
215/60R15

however my wheels on my EA are 205/65R15

I appreciate the effort of replying (and the image manipulation!), but
you need to read my original post better first! :-)

I *told you* in the original post the tyres on there are 215/60R15, my
question is what size are *meant* to be on those rims (as standard),
because I'm pretty sure 215/60R15 is not standard size.

Matt

Wheels, not many Fords are stock 205/60 x 15  the main size by teh
compliance plate is 205 x 65 x 15. Most cars world wide use this size in
order to, in time wipe out most of the 14 inch sizes. You'll find by working
it out  205 65 x 15 becomes 215 60 14  or my maths is wrong  but you must
also abide by your compliance plate,

Hope this helps

My wheels currently have 215/60R15 on them, not 205/60R15, but I see
what you are getting at.

Thanks for the info Peter, thats two votes for 205/65R15.

Could be, what does your compliance plate say, if you have a ford with
standard rims and such it should read 205 65 x 15 and then it also depends
on the rear end ratio's as well. I used to work for Beaurepaires and the
N.R.M.A with vehicles after a minor or major accident, my job was to inspect
rims and tyres for a way to get out of paying out, most cars were legal, the
odd few were not. I'll track down a tyre guide and send ok

Thanks mate, that'd be great.

I'll check the compliance plate tomorrow.

Ok, a few facts on tyres  the 205 65 x 15 is measured around the centre of
the tyre from A  and back to A this measurement governs if your speedo is
accurate to with in 1 to 5 kms per hours. The profile is 65 . The 205 60 x
15 is another profile that differs from the 65 series. Ford did make several
models with different ratios, thus intriducing the 205 60 x 15, but the most
common is the 205 65 x 15. If you ratio it down to a 14 inch rim and tyre i
think it is, from memory a 195 75 x 14 or 185 x 14, this bein gthe most
common measurement around the center of the tyre. Lower profile tyres like
295 55 x 18  or 325 45 x 19 all have the same measurements around the center
of the tyre but keep the same rolling diameter, this allows the speedo to be
nearly what it says. Putting different tyre sizes on, put your speedo out,
and you could be booked for speeding even tho your speedo says ya doing a
certain speed. The other big factor is legality on the road when involved
with a serious accident, you could be charged with having a illegal car.
Which is not as to the manufacturers specifications, hence the type
compliance on most cars, some inside the glovebox, others on either door
panel. One big problem with Ford was the ute it came in 2 specs, 185 x 14 LT
or 8 to 10 ply ) and the 185 14 HR rated tyre. The owner couldnt change to
the HR rated cos of the weight factor, so ya forced into using only LT
tyres.

Hope this helps

Peter

If you need a more specific tyre chart, any tyre shop can explain far better
than me.

the wheels you have on your car are the standard EL XR6 wheels. The factory
tyres were 205/65HR15.

They're definately not EL XR6 wheels! Maybe you meant ED :-)

Thanks for the info though, I actually got four new 205/65R15's fitted
today.

They *are* EL XR6 wheels. These were standard.

Police cars had 215/60 tyres on E series and AU1 Falcons.

Saw what? I thought EL XR6 wheels were the 5 or 6 spoke ones where the
spokes curve as they go in? The "classic" EF/EL wheels.

I never knew that, thanks for the info :-) I prefer the EF ones though!
