Hi, I have a question about why does my EB Falcon like to overheat these
days...
I have had the head-gasket redone, changed the thermostat and changed the
radiator cap. When we get a warm day (mid to high 30's) my temperature
gauge will reach right up into the red area.
When it is an average temp day (mid 20's) the temperature gauges fluctuates
up and down. i.e.. It will go to the top of normal and then suddenly just
drop down to the lower part of normal.
When it does finally overheat, I remove the radiator cap (with a thick towel
over it) and it what coolant is left will violently spurt out. I usually
refill it with the cheap $5 coolant, however this time I used Tectaloy 90
Plus at $18 per 5 litres, and it took nearly 10 litres.(

I raised the vehicle on a angle when filling, as I understand that this the
appropriate way, and even with this more expensive coolant I am still
noticing the gauge heading toward the top. More so when stationary or
moving slowly.
Any ideas??? I am not ready to get a new Falcon yet, as I am in full-time
study... : )

Whoops... The URL for the label on the radiator coolant is actually

Thats sounds like a typical E series Falcon problem, what thermo did
you put in? It needs to be a dual acting job and have the jiggle pin.
A dual acting thermo has then normal main housing + a disk protruding
from the bottom which closes off the bypass pipe at the bottom of the
thermo housing when operating temp is reached. If it doesn't have a
jiggle pin, you can drill a small hole in the thermo flange, the idea
is to allow a small amount of water to slip through.
If this is the problem, the symptoms are start up from cold, temp
goes into the normal zone then drops, goes back into normal zone
(could even go into red) then drops again and so on.
As other have mentioned, you may also have other problems such as
blocked radiator or stuffed clutch fan.
