Hello, does anyone know the difference between the Falcon, and the Falcon GL
van? Does the GL have a tailgate instead of 2 doors, and also have buckets?
What other extras did the GL have?
cheers

The doors were an option on their own (applicable to any van-model)
according to a friend who had an XD van with doors. Bench seats were only
possible with the column mounted gear-selector (auto or manual) AFAIK

I recall Ford producing a 302 V8 van twin doors, buckets seats and 4 speed
manual with a set of not bad guages and called it some weird name round
about teh same time Dick Johnson had that radar detector blue XD sedan
created. tho havent seen one for many years

Sundowner?. or was that XC
RDW - 25 May 2004 12:11 GMT
Yeah that was the Sundowner, came in the XC and XD - I think it had the ute
tail gate and the flap like the Holden vans did of the time. The last time I
saw one on the road was about 2 years ago. Was a very faded red but still
had the original decals etc on the side. I'm pretty sure they were based on
the GL van, but with the extra fruit - S-Pack dash, rear spoiler, spotties,
buckets.....

I actually purchased a Ford XD Sundowner brand new from City Ford in Sydney.

I loved all the features it offered except for the decals and the unpainted
rear door.

I ordered mine without the decals.

It came with a 4,9L, T-Bar, bucket seats, sports dash, factory 12 slot mags
plus front and rear spoilers and the tailgate instead of barn doors.
It was a very nice car and I could post some photo's to anyone who is
interested.

It looked much better without the decals and I had a spray painter paint the
rear window door. I could never understand why they left the upper tailgate
window/door unpainted in matt black.
Ford said it was to make it stand out. It sure did stand out but for all the
wrong reasons.

It was a great car. By the time it's life had expired (due to being stolen
and burnt out) it had a 6 litre Cleveland (5.8l modified) V8 with a top
loader 4 speed and 9" diff under it. Recaro seats, lowered 2" all round and
the rear bottom of the tailgate was airbrushed with the cars name
"Desperado".

It still is remembered as my favourite pride and joy car, over 20 years
later!!

I think that you are thinking of the Ford ESP, which had all the sports
additions plus red coloured dash lighting instead of the standard green.
